About Lizzie'S Barn Sanctuary

Lizzie's Barn is a small, independent, non- profit dog rescue. We do not use kennels, our dogs live with us. We rehome dogs throughout the UK.

Its not been a good end too last week. On Thursday night/ Friday morning we fell victims to torrential rain and high tides.
This is the side of running a rescue that is unseen.....
Blinking rain. I cant stress how much I hate the UK weather, nor how much I hate the lying piece of work we bought this place from, the estate agents, and the council who.all lied when asked the direct question "is this property affected by flooding?".
... "No" all said. "Just the metre or so each side of the river" the owner said.
0130hrs all of the outside areas flooded, and I mean ALL. Some of the dogs bedrooms started to flood. So Sam & I wade around in water that goes from ankle to over the thigh deep, the deepest bits are the shallower outside areas that we have to carry dogs through to relocate them. The water is cold, really cold. We both have numb legs and feet. All the dogs are now in areas that are higher, and new friendships are being forged ( I hope playing stops soon). Poor Jack ( horse) had too evacuate his Stable.
The stable apartment is flooded. ( The dogs bedrooms, converted from the old stables). Luckily we have an internal door. The utility room is flooded, currently about 10" deep, another 5" and the washing machine is dead.
Sam's car, in the main driveway needs diving gear
The new raised driveway is flooded, so the vans are up to their sills in water.
Sam & I are cold and wet, but happy in the knowledge that all the dogs are away from the wet areas.
There will be no photographs at the floods worst, because we were a)busy sorting out the dogs. b) it was too dark. c)if it have to look at them again I will fall onto my sword.
But here are a few from earlier, and mid morning when things started to subside.
People are asking did we loose much? The answer is no. Did we have any structural damage? Again no. What we had was mess, stinking mess. Leaving is with a big cleaning, washing and drying operation.
Some are asking what we can do to stop the flooding?' The answer is nothing. BUT we can protect ourselves. We can raise the remainder of the floors( we did the rest several years ago). #So that's the floors in the stables apartment, and the other stables and a concrete skirt outside them. #We can raise the floor in the utility room. #We can build a wall out the front and fill and level it provide raised parking, to keep the vehicles safe.
BUT this costs money and time.
This is where you guys come in please. Are you a groundworkers or builder? With a bit of free time? Do you work for a builders merchants / ready-mix concrete company? Could you get them to donate the materials we need?
Or can you help us by making a donation to help ? Thank you.

These two beautiful girls, Milla & Erin, are ex breeding bitches. They are currently in a foster home and have started to turn the corner, and join in life on the outside. Soon we will be looking for sensitive and understanding homes.

April & Mai
These two beautiful Chinese crested girls are seeking new homes because their owner died.
They came to us with no history at all, the distant relative who bought them to us, hadn't even known his aunt liked dogs, he hadn't seen her for many years.
... We believe they are between 2 and 3 years old. They are 'hairy' hairless dogs, not Powderpuffs.
Both girls are absolutely delightful. Very friendly and companionable. Both April and May love adults and children, and mix well with other dogs. They are comfortable with all the normal household events, routines and trapping so we believe they were indoor dogs. They certainly know what a fridge is and how best to snuggle on the sofa!
Both girls walk nicely on the lead, have good recalls. They also travel well in the car.
April and Mai are living at the Sanctuary, near Kidwelly. If you think you might be the family they are waiting for, please email us at:-
rehoming.lizziesbarn@googlemail.com< br> We will send you our adoption enquiry questionnaire and full details of the adoption process.

Indigo is an Anatolian Shepherd Dog. Her date of birth is approximately 1st January 2018. Even though she was an unclaimed stray at around 16 weeks, she had clearly been loved and cared for.
Indie is a very nice sociable young pup. She has tremendous stamina, and does struggle with the way the older dogs like to laze around in the afternoons, rather than play crazy puppy games - doesn't everyone want to play all day? She has a strong character and although not wilful, does ...try it on with those, human and K9, who are less determined than she is.
Indie is lovely to take out, and travels very well in the van. She travels in a crate, but is growing so tall, she will soon be upgraded to the middle section, in a travel harness. One of her favourite outings is to our local dog friendly cafe, where on her very first visit her behaviour made such a good impression, she was approached about joining the Burns reading scheme, in which children read out loud to dogs ( and cats I believe). She has been friendly and outgoing with all the people and dogs she has met whilst with us.
Indie's tail is amazing, and curls around your arm like an elephant's trunk when you walk alongside her.
Indie is going to be a very big girl, she needs a large home with room to stretch, and a family who understand her breed traits and prepared to continue with her education, she is a bright and intelligent girl who will need continuing guidance as she matures, to ensure she retains all her good manners. She likes children, and behaves as though she is used to all ages.
Indie is living at the Sanctuary, near Kidwelly, with Fionna and her canine friends. If you think you might be the family she is waiting for, please email us at:-

Update
Scottie continus well with his recovery. We have raised just underĀ£200, now up to Ā£398, towards his surgery. Most from one lovely donor, you know who you areā¤ļø So a massive thank you to those who have donated. If you haven't yet, please consider Scotties plight. We still have a very long way to go to cover his total for what's been done, and for his second op in August
... Little Scottie is recovering well, his pain is beautifully managed, so he is relaxed and comfortable.
This delightful little dogs owner died, and this frightened and confused little chap was found with him, several days later, he was very lame and in a dreadful state.
Poor Scottie has to have both patellas re modelled. Today's op was the first, so one down, one to go. His second op is on August 30th.
We have already had a dental and two sets of X-rays on this chap. The bill today was Ā£800, the next will be the same.
If you would like to donate towards little Scottie's vets bills we would be very grateful, so far this year we have not had a dog in who hasn't needed a big dental or other surgery on top of the normal neutering etc.
If you want to help Scottie and dogs like him, the link below tells you how to donate
Thank you.

Two really ugly dogs needing homes.
The two ugliest dogs you have ever met, have been looking for their forever homes for over two years. Originally dumped n a bin at a few days old. Sadly they are so ugly no one wants them. Maybe you will be a hero and looked beyond their ugly appearance and see the beautiful, gentle dogs beneath the surface?
... Of course no one gives a dam, but just incase you are wondering, their names are Alexander and Orlov
I know there won't be any applications, but just incase email us at; rehoming.lizziesbarn@googlemail.com for details on adoption

We recently got Sara ................... she's a special girl, we couldn't be happier and she has given a new lease of life to our grumpy old JRT girl who has been coaxed by Sara to "come and play" and she's loving it ! Thank you Fiona.

User

We love lizzies barn and Fionna and her volunteers and dog fosterers are fantastic caring people..and we adore our boy that we adopted from there..x

User

We got our dog, Dylan, from here in 2003. He has been a wonderful addition to our family.....the perfect family pet. We love him to bits!

User

We got chosen by Oscar and wouldnā€™t swap him for the world! Lizzieā€™s helps sad little dogs gain wonderful lives and gives them a happy loving inbetween home....

User

We got Alfie (lab) from them he is most gorgeous loving dog, if l could have another l get it from them

User

We canā€™t thank Fionna enough for allowing us to rehome Beeba. Heā€™s a gorgeous boy and will always have a forever home with us. We were so sorry that it didnā€™t work out with Doris but hope that she finds her permanent loving home too.

The dogs are clearly loved and cared for. Fionna is also very knowledgeable as are those who support her. Lizzieā€™s Barn is an example of a local rescue doing amazing work without the financial support that the large, well known animal charities benefit from. C
