Llandrindod Wells First Responders Description

When a patient faces a serious emergency, every second counts for them and a simple helping hand from a Community First Responder can make a vital difference to their lives. First Responders in Wales are volunteers who donate their spare time to attend 999 calls and provide first hand emergency care to people in their own community. When a 999 call is made, First Responders are alerted by WAST‘s three control centres and are sent to certain types of calls the same time as an ambulance so they can provide essential care until the vehicle reaches the scene. The volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service to administe first aid skills, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator

Today, a couple of our responders had their annual refresher CPD training alongside Radnor First Responders and the Welsh Assembly Government Responders, they also learnt a few added extras. They have learnt how to better deal with Diabetic Emergencies and more in depth patient assessments. They also gained an extra piece of kit today - Mangar Camel - this will enable our responders to help non injury fallers up off the floor using an electronic lifting cushion. Saving lives and time and hopefully a resource for life threatening emergencies. Keep up the good work team! #TeamWAST #Savinglives #CFR

One of our very own first responders has started raising money to get a defibrillator put into the town centre of Llandrindod Wells, which will save time and lives. A very big thank you and well done Wendy 🚑👍🏼. Your community thanks you for your efforts and thank you to those who help raise money for it.

These are real calls that have been taken by call handlers in Wales. The “999” Call system was set up to help those in need of life saving emergencies, who have a genuine need for an ambulance. Calls like these can waste time and ambulances to those people who desperately need it!
Christmas is an especially busy time of year for the ambulance services around wales and the UK, so it is important that we use all of the self help services appropriately and educate those who sho...uld be referred to either Self help from a pharmacy or their GP.
#Choosewell was set up in order to give people the knowledge of other services they can use for more “minor” things.
#Choosewell this winter and save an ambulance for those who have a genuine need for it.
Available options we have in Wales are: NHS Direct - 111 / GP - Your own doctor or a doctor/nurse or suitable Healthcare Professional / Minor Injuries - Information is available on the NHS/Health board websites / Pharmacy - For self care, they can offer advice too.
Thank you For taking the time to read through this and watch this video, hopefully we can share this message and save the Ambulance Service from being too busy this year.

Sepsis is still one of the UKs biggest illnesses, the BBC have made a short clip about the signs and symptoms of Sepsis, it’s important to recognise these signs as it could mean the difference and early treatment will save lives.

A MASSIVE thanks to Llandrindod Wells RFC for kindly offering to shave some heads in order to raise money for us. Very kind of you, thank you for thinking of us, your fundraiser will go towards more lifesaving equipment for the local community.

If you’re going to do one good thing this month, let it be this, giving blood saves lives for those who desperately need it. No appointment is needed, just go along and donate blood, it may not be much to you, but to someone else it could be all they need to save a life.

Another busy night ahead for our team with Responders already booked on assisting the Welsh Ambulance service.
Use the 999 emergency call system wisely tonight. Please, to help others who may be in desperate need of help, please only call if it is a genuine emergency. If you are at home or out tonight, stay safe and look after friends and loved ones.
The First Responder team in Llandrindod Wells would like to wish each and every single one of you a very happy new year.

Tonight is traditionally one of the busiest nights of the year for the Welsh Ambulance Service and the team are already helping provide cover for them with 2 vehicles booked on, including a joint team with the Welsh Office whom we have been covering with during the day-time for the last few weeks, and will continue to do so working in partnership with them in the new year.
Tonight we will have a Responder booked on in town as well as a Responder stationed in the Bulith Wells area.
Please enjoy the festivities, drink sensibly, and stay safe!

Sepsis is becoming one of the UK’s biggest medical problems, especially in recent times and can have the potential to be fatal if not treated. If you or someone you know, has recently been unwell, this may be something to consider. Have a look and if ever you are unsure phone either 111 for NHS Direct and ask for advice, if their triage system deem it serious enough, then they may transfer you to the emergency 999 call centre. #sepsis

Today, our First Responder Team took their refresher training alongside Radnor First Responder Team with the help of Glyn Thomas, our training officer. Even though we are very busy all year round and get to practice our skills often, it’s always very good to just update our skills and regulations and get comfortable with the them all. Keep up the good work everyone, you’re doing yourself and the communities proud!
