Nice surprise from some guests who stayed around a year ago. We thought they'd forgotten, but they sent us these shots they'd taken with a new drone they were trying out :-)
A jay on our bird table on a misty morning.... Truth is, Dawn took the photo through the back door window so we didn't scare it off, and she steamed up the glass lol :-)
Indeed.... :-)
I know this video is nearly 8 years old, and I also posted this too late for St David's Day, but it leads me into a very interesting local link. You see, Big Ben himself, Sir Benjamin Hall's tomb lies in the graveyard of St Bartholomew's Church, a short walk down the lane from us here.
Sir Benjamin Hall, The Lord and 1st Baron Llanover. was the first Commissioner of Works, and 'Big Ben', the famous hour bell in the Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament, is reputedly named i...n honour of Hall, a tall chap apparently.
Equally interesting, Hall's wife, Augusta, Lady Llanover and daughter of the founder of Llanover House, and the estate, of which Llansabbath is a part, was a major force in promoting all things Welsh and had a passion for retaining the Welsh language in southern Wales. Lady Llanover is credited, amongst many other things, with originating (or at least popularising) the concept of the welsh National Dress.
St Bartholomew's Church dates to the 12th century, with the addition of a 14th century tower. There is a 6th century preaching cross in the churchyard, and a 13th century font inside.
