.

An excellent stay in this impressive hotel.

There are only 6 rooms here, so you need to book up well in advance at busy times. The rooms are a good size, and with 2 armchairs (how many hotels have only one?), a trouser press, an iron and ironing board, and a kettle for tea and coffee - biscuits also provided, as were two bottles of mineral water. Flat screen tv, good size, and good wifi.

The bed was a good size and very comfortable, with nice bed linen. The shower room was fine, with good toiletries and a hair-dryer, and everywhere was spotlessly clean.

Breakfast was excellent - both help-yourself continental and cooked-to-order Welsh breakfast. A special mention must be made of the charming lady from the Surrey-Hampshire border who gave us a wonderful welcome in the breakfast room and made a lovely start to the day.

We didn't try the restaurant, but in addition to the normal menu there are Specials on 4 evenings a week - curry, burger, pie or fish, depending on the day.

The building was impressive. Dating from the 1870s, its outstanding feature is the amazing wood carvings everywhere. You first notice them on the front door, then on the fireplace, internal doors, windows - Greek, Roman, Tudor, figures as well as Saints - a really wide spectrum.

We heard several versions of how these came about, and where they originated. Were they carved in the Far East? In Austria? Rescued from a captain's cabin when a ship was decommissioned? A gift to an only daughter from a Liverpool magnate? A gift to a mistress? Whatever the story, they are most impressive.

The one drawback to the hotel is that it is sited in the middle of a caravan park. A very nice caravan park, but it spoils the view somewhat to be looking down on that.

But we shall be back, as our few days here were very good.

This is a fantastic place for holidays or ownership. I have a caravan on here and it was the best decision i ever made

We stayed here along with many of my family for a wedding which was held near by. Lovely place, rooms were great and very friendly staff who cooked us an amazing breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here.

Lovely site with good facilities and a stone's throw from the town centre.

Lovely clean and spacious accommodation. Knocked a star off because you can hear what's happening in the next room which isn't ideal when you need a little lie in.

User

Very pleasant and well kept and the people there are very friendly and eager to help.

Nice place to stop. Clean and comfortable. Good food.

Decent food and very friendly service. The real star is the hall itself though - absolutely beautiful, historic building

Beautiful grounds. Polite and helpful staff. Food was ok but nothing amazing. Stayed for the weekend deal. Would recommend.
