Their website claim that "Machynys is the youngest course ever to be awarded an R& A championship". At a cost of £3. 5m the course layout included 25 acres of new lakes. In 2012 the club hosted the Seniors Open Amateur Championship, having previously hosted the "Boys Home Internationals" in August 2007 making the club the youngest golf course ever to be chosen as an R& A championship venue.
