Mad Hatter'S Cafe Bistro Description

Mad Hatter's is an enchanting and elegant cafe /bistro run by a local family, serving the Mumbles community.

A wide selection of delicious food is freshly prepared on the premises. We only use produce that is locally sourced and serve heavenly fair trade coffee by Ethical Addictions. You can enjoy homemade food, with gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available.

From Tuesday to Saturday evenings our Bistro menu boasts the best of local food. Or why not just relax at the bar with a cocktail or chill in our tub chairs while you enjoy live music and some tempting nibbles.

The cafe is beautifully decorated with the illustrations of John Tennie drawn by British artist Arran Gregory (Google him - he's pretty awesome! ), producing a magical ambience in which to enjoy your tea. . . and it's always tea time at the Mad Hatter's!

Doug and his friendly staff have created a relaxed atmosphere for the cafe which is available for private hire and is fully licensed for selling alcohol.

It looks like a sunny weekend ahead so there is a chance that you will be going to the Mumbles Local Produce Market on Saturday and of course Alice, who normally gives very good advice, would say to you that it only makes sense to pop into Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro to have a drink and / or some food. Don't forget that this weeks speciality scone is #cherryandalmond. We are always on the lookout for great local produce so you might share some tips with us.

User

It had to happen! As soon as we mention the sunshine in #Mumbles it disappears, well it has today at least and it almost feels cold. You can however be sure of a very warm welcome Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro where the food and drink will always make you feel like the sun is shining. Last week #TheMadHatter and the #MarchHare were spotted at Hampton Court Palace Flower show taking a cup of tea. What a great sculpture but a bit too big to fit on the pavement.

User

It is time for a refreshing Afternoon Tea. Get away from the heat and come to one of the coolest restaurants in #Mumbles. we cook our speciality scones on the premises and this week you can enjoy #cherryandalmond. Others that have been very popular are #parmaviolets, #walnutandstilton, and there were even some people who enjoyed #marmite!!

User

We are selling tickets for a medieval banquet at the castle on Sunday 26th August at 6:30pm. Proceeds go towards Mumbles RNLI and Crimebeat.

Don,t worry, even though The March Hare is taking a short holiday to test out Italian afternoon teas he has not forgotten you.

Its party time!
Who doesn't like a #party? Well if you had been in Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro on Saturday you would have seen that we held a fabulous party to celebrate a special occasion. Our distinct Alice in Wonderland themed décor makes everyone feel like having a party especially an #afternoonteaparty. So if you want to celebrate special occasion then let us know and we can provide you with a spread like the one in the photograph below

User

Afternoon Tea anyone?
Are you passing through The Mumbles, Swansea, United Kingdom on your way to the Gower Walking Festival on Saturday? Why not pop into Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro and enjoy one of our speciality #afternoonteas. We might not be as posh as the one in the photo but we know we match anyone for taste and value for money. You could start the day with a lovely coffee or finish it with afternoon tea.

National Scone Day Here is some feedback. Firstly we tried to get some scones to @ChrisEvansBreakfastShow so that he could announce National Scone Day. Unfortunately we had not made allowance for the slow internal mail at the BBC. They arrived this morning and they were kind enough to phone us up and tell us that they enjoyed them. Secondly we did not know that Chris would be on holiday and that Sarah Cox would be standing in. Better luck next time!
Anyway Parma Violets... were the clear favourite.
Thank you to all our customers who enjoyed National Scone Day with us.

Hands up if you think we are #excellent
OK I know it is a silly question because clearly you are reading this because we are, but it is always nice to know that other people think the same way.
We have just heard that we have retained our TripAdvisor recognition with their 'Certificate of Excellence' in 2018.
... So all we would ask you to do is tell your friends, give us a 'like' or share the page so that we can continue to be the best independent Café/Bistro in Mumbles. Thank you

Do hares hibernate??
Well there is some debate about whether or not hares hibernate. However you would be forgiven if you thought that the March Hare (aka - Me) had hibernated or at least been asleep for a little while. I know you have missed me, as the FB stats tell me that so I am now back on the case.
After the terrific response to #Parmaviolet flavoured scones and surprising interest in #Marmite alternatives it is time to announce this weeks speciality scone -#Butterscotch. It is thought that 'butterscotch' originated in Doncaster around 1850 but don't worry all our scones are baked fresh on the premises.

User

With sunny intervals forecast for Saturday that will mean lots of you will get the opportunity to visit Mumbles Local Produce Market. As Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro is just a three minute walk away it is an ideal opportunity to pop in and enjoy the great scones and lovely coffee, or even better book on of our fabulous #afternoonteas

User

What will you be missing this week?
From the reactions and number of orders that have come in over the past couple of weeks you might be missing out on #sconesensations at Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro.
So pop in this week and try walnut and blue cheese scones, all baked fresh on the premises. There may be a few #Parmaviolets and #Marmite flavoured scones available as well.
... If there is such a thing as a hot picture then see this one taken this morning when the first batch of the week came out of the oven. So just like the #MadHatter himself hurry, hurry, hurry, while there are still some left.

User

Well we thought that we would have a little quiz about our famous flavoured scones, and I mean #Marmite and #Parma Violets. If you can answer all five questions correctly then we will give you and one other person a mini-tea of four scones and a drink. So here we go:
1. Where was Marmite first produced in the UK 2. On what date was Marmite first produced 3. Where were Parma Violets first produced in the UK... 4. On what date were Parma Violets first produced. 5. To the nearest mile how far apart are the towns that Marmite and Parma Violets were first produced.
The answers will be available in Mad Hatter's Cafe Bistro next week. Pop in for an afternoon tea and try your luck.

What a fantastic restaurant!! The food was absolutely stunning, the decor was fab and staff were so attentive and friendly. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. Our first visit but definitely not our last. I would recommend Mad Hatter's to everyone

User

What a fantastic place! This was our first visit and were impressed with the food and service. We were seated in a lounge area for drinks and to look at the menu before shown to our table when starters were ready. The food was very fresh and imaginative! Can't wait for next visit but it'll be awhile as we live in Sheffield.

User

We visited this evening (3/6/16) for the a la carte menu. We had a great welcome and had time to relax and have a drink whilst looking at the menu, before moving on to our table. The restaurant is clean and smart with minimalist but themed decor. The food was amazing and the service outstanding. With a menu that changes fortnightly, we cannot wait to go back. A great host too, thank you. Would recommend to everyone and will be trying out the day menu or afternoon tea soon.

User

We visited the restaurant this evening (8/4/2016) for the A la Carte menu. The restaurant as you enter is fresh and tastefully decorated with pictures from Alice in Wonderland. You are seated in an area to start with drinks then taken to your table once your first course is almost ready. The owner of the Bistro is also one of the waiters and as such the service is very personal as he takes time to talk to you about the food and the Bistro. All 3 courses that we had we superb. A delicious blend of ingredients that make this a very worthwhile visit. I also recommend the mad hatters garden party sharing desert as a special treat.

User

Was wonderful for Mad hatters to allow yr 9 Morriston comp pupils loose in the kitchen and restaurant. The evening was enjoyed by parents with outstanding food. If this is the quality of the food produced and served by the pupils under the watchful eye of the professionals. Then we will definitely be back as it was stunning. That cheesecake was heaven on a plate. Well done all giving back to the community and well done on a quirky little place.

User

Visited for the first time last Friday with a group of four and we have a fantastic meal. The food was tasty, drinks were excellent and service was that of a Parisian gourmet venue. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend a meal here!

User

The most adorable place ever! Delicious food and excellent service - and the mint ice tea is SO good! The best place in the Mumbles by a country mile.

User

The afternoon tea was beautiful, the atmosphere was lovely and I’m in love with the decor! highly recommend and plan to visit again.

The Mad Hatter Cafe Bistro is local to me. Was there yesterday with my daughter and her husband, over from Italy, and it is their big treat to eat breakfast there - the best breakfasts in the Mumbles. The ambience is great and the service excellent and very friendly, attentive staff. Well done.

Really nice charming little place. We loved the afternoon tea and had to take a doggy bag home for the rest because it was a generous portion for 4 and we couldn't finish it! Enjoyed the sandwiches on train back after!! Staff were friendly and kind when I spilt my tea everywhere!! Oops! Can't take me anywhere! x

Lovely fish and chips on Thursday 28th June . Thank you x

Just passing through Mumbles and looking for a lunch stop. This place was amazing. Cafe/Bistro. Very relaxed and the food was great. My husband had one of the daily specials. Spicy chicken linguine. He said it was really tasty and there was plenty of it. I had my favourite, ham egg and chips. Very tasty and again a good sized portion. The bill came to just over £20 with the two J2o's we had. I thoroughly recommend Mad Hatter's Cafe.

User

I visited mad hatters yesterday with friends and 2 6 year olds! We had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely delicious and definitely value for money, with the amount and selection that we had.

And the service was second to none! They made such an effort with the children, bringing them miniature sized teapots for their barbie dolls and putting their squash in a teapot, so they were just as grown up as the adults!

I would recommend mad hatters to anyone young or old. We had afternoon tea but the other food that was being served also looked just as good, and I can't wait to return myself!

User

First class service, first class food! We had the most amazing afternoon tea at Mad Hatter's for my sister-in law's surprise baby shower. The staff couldn't do enough for us, the table was laid out beautifully and I'm still bouncing from my sugar high (macaroons to die for!). Beautiful quirky setting with amazing detail. Highly recommended :)

User

Came in the night for a drink. Loving the more chilled out vibe! The live music was nice and a I had banging espresso martini! We only came for a drink but were tempted by the nibbles. My boyfriend stuffed all the jalapenos in his face before I could even have one so I'll have to come back again! I liked the falafel bites.

User

Called there on Saturday afternoon (15/07/17). Myself & my wife ordered the steak with caramelised onion on bloomers, whilst my son ordered the buttermilk chicken burger. We weren't to be disappointed either, the steak was so tender, bread was lovely & even the side salad was good. My sons burger was perfection too, not your usual frozen chicken burger. It looked like it had been made on the premises.

Would definitely return, although the only thing that was amiss was the lack of facility to pay by card.

On the whole a great lunch. :-D

A little gem in Mumbles relaxed atmosphere fabulous breakfast quality service friendly staff and also opens in evenings as a bistro we tried it out last week and the food was amazing!

First visit. Nice atmosphere and very busy, but managed to get a table. Enjoyed a really delicious hot chocolate (and I'm very particular about hot chocolates!) . Also indulged in a yummy piece of lemon meringue pie. Friendly staff too. A couple of the tables were having the afternoon tea which looked fab! Will be back
