A year ago today I opened my lovey cafe, Martys at the Museum. Ten months of trading was all it came to. I visited Age Concern today to see how I can eek out my £300 per month payment from Universal Credit. Cheers, Staff and Trustees.

No point in making any comments they are being removed immediately. But since they have acknowledged the fact I did my best, and they want someone like me to take over, I think it only fair that the prospective clients are given the whole picture and not deceived as I was. TheMuseum want 1/3rd of the running cost of the whole Museum to come from rental of the cafe. They estimate this Currently at £300 per week. They said it has always been their intention to take this amount ...from rental of the cafe. They never once told me this until I was called in for a ‘review’ of my licence. I had taken the cafe for £100 per week, which was increased to£200 after three months. Never was there any mention of the 20 seater cafe being responsible for a huge percentage of the running costs of an old substantial building. When they called me into this meeting they were aware that I had severe, accute health issues. They never even acknowledged my Illness which I struggled so hard with. Instead. They offered me an 18 month lease as I had done such a good job - but at £300 per week. Now when the rent was raised to £200 per week I told the trustees I was struggling and having to take on extra outside work. They chose to ignore this face. This was not unusual. They ignored every request i made, whether for extra hours, inclusion in their plans - anything and every suggestion was rejected. In my last meeting with them, they again said how they did not want to lose me,so I asked them what they would do for me, to keep me. They said I could take over the cleaning of the toilets . For this they would stagger the payment of the extra £100 increase over four months. Therefore I would pay £300 per week from April 2019 AND provide public toilet cleaning As well. I had no choice but to refuse. I had taken heavy losses during all my time at the Museum but I believed in the place and believed in the trustees. I was very much mistaken. In the words of their own staff, I was treated brutally. I am now out of work at the age of 63, the first time ever in my life. I have no idea why they pushed me out. I’m sure time will tell what they are not. PleSe feel free to ask any questions. I have nothing to hide.

If anyone knows Jodie Evans will you tell her that I have the gateau she ordered waiting for pick up? Also a very impressive quiche Lorraine and a ganache covered chocolate cake!

It’s our last few days at Martys, and I’d just like to thank everyone for the support and loyalty shown to us. The Museum is honestly the best place I’ve ever had the privilege of working at. Linda and me have made fantastic friends, I hope we don’t lose touch, you started out as strangers but we were soon calling you our friends. Sometimes - most times- life doesn’t give you what you want but who knows what’s around the corner? Believe me, worse things have happened this ye...ar than being my unable to renegotiate a contract with the Museum! It’s a lovely place and belongs to the people of Aberdare. So please come in to get your Christmas kiss and cwtch from your Auntie Jan and Auntie Linda before we go. Peace, goodwill and love to everyone Happy Christmas all in the name of Marty, long may you live on in our memories my handsome boy x 🌈🎅🏼❤️

We are so sad for Wynne Roberts, our Welsh Elvis, on the very sad and unexpected death of his brother. Wynne has obviously postponed tomorrow nights gig with us at the Cricket club, and will be in touch very soon to reorganise a date for the New Year. Our deepest condolences to Wynne and his family ❤️

I’ve learned to live, over the years, and I know how to love. But how do I live without my love? Four years ago tomorrow Martyn Griffiths left me. I hope God, you are as happy with my son as I was. I miss you my darling boy. ❤️ @Martyn Griffiths

It is with great regret I have to announce the closure of Martys at the Museum. This little cafe has been a life saver for me, and I loved working there. The customers became friends, and the good wishes and warmth which myself and my staff received was awe inspiring. However, I have been unable to successfully negotiate a new contract with the Trustees. The manager has asked that I do not discuss the figures asked for so I will respectfully honour this. I understand a new ...tenant has been found, and I wish them the very best of luck We will close after the Christmas break. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support and friendship. Happy Christmas, all ❤️😘😘❤️
