OK lovely people, by majority vote (so far!) we've decided to open tomorrow (Sunday 19th Jan) for a few hours from 11am - 4pm. If all goes well, we'll open from next Wednesday as per our opening hours on the website.
To give you an idea of what we have right available now:
FUEL:... ~ Homefire Ecoal50 10kg bags - introductory price of just £5.50. It has a very long burn time, lovely big hexagonal nuggets, and best of all, your home won't smell like a steam engine shed.
~ Brazier smokeless coal 20kg bags - great value multi-purpose basic coal for £7.99 per bag
~ CPL Anthracite small nuts 25kg bags - premium smokeless fuel at £12.99 per bag
~ Homefire Heat Logs 10kg bags - another product we love at home, easy to light and breaks up into smaller chunks easily to get a good bed going in your stove. £4.99 per bag
~ Homefire Twizlers - great burn time and totally eco-friendly they're made of wax-coated wood wool (who knew there was such a thing! Doubt I could crochet with it tho...) £2.25 per bag
~ Homefire Fibre Lighters and Firelighters - £1.15 per box
~ Bags of logs at £3.75 per bag and kiln-dried kindling at £3 per bag.
WE ALSO HAVE: ~ Bareroot birch saplings for hedging / potting / planting, but I've not had time to count them yet, ask in store if you're interested
~ Bareroot sitka spruce saplings for restocking / shelter belts - we have approx 1000 but yet to be sorted, so again just ask when you pop in
I'll also be taking orders soon for bulbs in the green for spring planting, and I'll let you know about that soon.
We have a clearance section with some pots, gardening gloves and a few other bits at 50p each or 3 for £1, as well as a "Take-a-chance" section with some seed packets that are dated "sow by end 2018", and we're just looking for a voluntary contribution for these.
And finally, as a small thank you (and to help out the poor plants that are desperately in need of repotting!) every purchase over £5 gets a free tray of pansies - 6 plants per tray, while stocks last.
Hope to see you soon! Stay warm 😊🧡

We're in a bit of a pickle... Maybe you can help?
We have a lot to do to make the garden centre "Retail Ready" - lots of tidying up, rearranging, site clearance, planting and repotting, and ordering of stock to do, not to mention all the admin!
But we also want to get the doors open as fast as possible so that you have a local supply of fuel on your doorstep and don't need to travel too far as the weather is getting colder.
... Would you rather be able to come in and get some fuel regardless, or would you rather wait until you know things will be properly organised and fully-functional?
Please vote and let us know! Thanks so much! 😊🧡

Happy 2019 Everyone!
We hope you've had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's, and that 2019 will be the most happy, healthy and prosperous year for you.
It's taken us a while to get established on the land, but we're definitely getting there! Paul has worked hard (with a bit of help from the kids 😜) to get our new solar array into place which will power more in the garden centre as well as our home. At the moment he's working on a new water system for the same reasons, but th...e weather at this time of year isn't exactly helpful...
We really enjoyed our afternoon at the #Pontrhydygroes & #Ysbyty village hall Christmas fair, and met so many wonderful people - I just wish my memory for names was better! We really do feel utterly blessed to be here, to be welcomed into a community that is just so lovely and to be a part of something truly special and uniquely Welsh.
On the business front, we're in the process of clearing the polytunnel and ordering in some stock to get things going. We're talking to Melcourt about their products - any feedback about the last lot would be very much appreciated to help us decide what to order in!
It was recommended to us that we stock household fuel during the winter months and we thought that was a brilliant idea, so we shopped around and ordered some in! We've just received a shipment of coal (including a new product called ECoal that we are LOVING), anthracite, heat logs (similar to the Blazers but smaller chunks) and firelighters. We've also ordered a supply of logs and kindling from our neighbouring farm Cambrian Christmas Trees so we'll have a fresh supply of TRULY local wood for you as well.
We will be opening our doors in early February - in an unofficial way for now, just to offer the fuel to local folk. We are planning an Easter-themed re-opening event that will mark the official relaunch of the garden centre, with a pencilled in date of April 10th. Please keep an eye out on here for the details of that, or go ahead and sign up to our newsletter on the new website to get a special Easter Event Treat!
In the meantime, if you have any requests for specific products, plants or seeds, or any suggestions for us, please do get in touch via email at sayhi@ystwythgcn.com or leave a comment below. We want to provide the community with what they want and need. We are, however, very busy right now, so it may take a little while for us to get back to you! But rest assured we definitely will.
So looking forward to meeting you (if we haven't already!) Have a wonderful weekend 🙂🌱🧡

The new logo!
It's meant to encapsulate a number of different attributes we aspire to run the business by: ~ The big Y is for the community we serve, not just Ystbyty, but the whole Ystrad Meurig region (We hope!)
... ~ The green arrow-like fronds represent our "green" ethos and respect for the Earth, the natural cycle of life (and of course recycling), and also how we hope to be a part of the cycle of life within the community and local economy.
What do you think? Love it or hate it, let us know!

Announcing new owners of Ystwyth Garden Nursery.
Hello everyone
We are very excited to let you know as of next week we'll be the new owners of Ystwyth Garden Nursery. We have many ideas for the business, but first and foremost we want to reassure you that it will remain a nursery, and that all our plans are to build on the solid foundations already in place.... We are a family from Kent who are doing what many city-dwellers wish to do; escape the rat race and live a lifestyle that is close to the land in a beautiful location. We have been dreaming of making Wales home for many years, and this year we decided to stop dreaming and start doing and when we took our first trip up to the land we knew we'd never find better. It is very important to us that both our family and business be of benefit to the community as a whole.- looking at what Nathan achieved with the nursery (and what Gary has managed to do in the few hours a week he has been taking care of things), we realise we have big shoes to fill! We hope you will feel welcome in providing suggestions for products and services you wish to see at the nursery, so that we can provide value at a personal level. Please leave a comment here or feel free to email me at tam@coloursofyourtruth.com Unfortunately we will have to close over the winter as we get settled in. The nursery will be closed from Monday 19th November until mid February/early March next year, when we plan to reopen with a Spring-themed event the whole family can join in on! In the meantime we hope to meet many of you as we find our way around the villages (and local pubs :D) and please do introduce yourselves if you spot us out and about.
Warmly
Paul & Tam Johnson
