Many people have shown concern that we might be dumping loads of plants because we can't sell them, which is true of some garden centres, but not Millbrook. We had an unbelievably busy week in the run up to closing and sold out of all veg plants, pansies, primroses etc. We found out on the Monday evening that we had to close and were able to cancel all of our plant orders for last week. We had some potted bulbs left, but they have been planted around the house and garden cent...re. The trees, shrubs and perennials are all being watered and looked after, so will be fine until we are able to reopen. Regarding bedding plants, it is still quite early in the season, so we hadn't bought in any ready grown ones yet. The ones we grow ourselves from plugs had only just started arriving, so we were able to cancel all further deliveries. It is the nurseries that will be suffering the greatest losses, because they now have millions of plants that the garden centres won't buy. Rest assured that our staff are all furloughed on 100% wages, so are happy to be safe at home. We realise that people would love us to partially open and are sorry to let people down, but other garden centres are doing home delivery and the Wye Valley Country store sells some gardening items. The most important thing is that we all get through this safely. There's always next spring!

We are still getting quite a lot of enquiries asking whether we are open and whether we are doing deliveries. Sadly, the answer is still no to both. We have considered the possibility of doing deliveries, but it is logistically very difficult and would require most of our staff to be at work, therefore putting them at risk. If you require the services of Marcus, the blade sharpening and welding man who works out of Millbrook, please ring him on 07711 959 886. He will be able to meet you off our premises. In the meantime, please stay safe and enjoy your gardens.

We are extremely sad to say that Millbrook will now be closed until further notice. All outstanding deliveries will be honoured, but we don’t think that we will be able to take any new orders for delivery. We will update Facebook if this situation changes. At the moment the garden centre is open, but we will be making a decision tomorrow morning regarding possible closure in the near future.

We are currently opening our usual hours and will continue to do for as long as we are able. We have a great selection of seeds and compost and masses of fresh plants, including some lovely arrangements for Mothering Sunday.

We are currently open (during our normal hours) and will be for as long as we are able. We still have plenty of seeds, compost etc and lots of beautiful fresh plants.

The river Trothy gave us another scare last night and today, but thankfully it didn’t get as high as two weeks ago. Huge thanks (yet again) to Mandy and Dale for turning up in the middle of the night to keep the water out of the house. The river is on its way back down now, so it will be business as usual tomorrow.

As many of you know, Millbrook has a history of flooding and we don’t usually post anything about it publicly when it does. It’s actually quite common for us to have a night where two people stay up manning the pumps to keep the water out of the house. The water doesn’t usually reach very far into the shop and we manage to clear up most of the mess before anyone sees it.
This time has been rather different. On Saturday night, Millbrook suffered the worst flood since 1979. Sea...n and Marcus stayed up all night to work the pumps, but in the early hours of Sunday morning it reached the point where the pumps couldn’t cope and the water came into the house. Mandy and Dale arrived at 3am and worked tirelessly to move all the shop stock that was vulnerable.
Janet and Geoff had to retreat upstairs, where thankfully, the electricity and lights stayed on, despite the water reaching almost 3ft downstairs!
Sunday was a day of waiting. The water was in the shop and house for the whole day and there was nothing that anyone could do. By Monday morning the river level had dropped considerably, so we were able to start the clear up. It was a loss messier than any of us had realised and even though everyone worked all day, we couldn’t get the garden centre tidy enough to reopen on Tuesday. Despite dreadful flooding in their own house in Skenfrith, Karen and Mike from the Red Door Deli kept us all supplied with coffee and food. Neighbours Nick and Christine Barter also kindly brought hot food for Janet and Geoff. Lucy helped with the massive task of making the kitchen useable.
All of the Millbrook staff have been amazing. Mandy, Dean, Dale, Trudy, Sean, Liam and Ian have all spent hours getting things back to as near normal as possible.
Huge thanks to everyone who I have mentioned, staff or otherwise and to all of the people who have messaged, commented or rung to see how things are at Millbrook. Janet and Geoff very much appreciate all the help that they’ve had and are relieved that they are able to stay at Millbrook and oversee the clear up.
We are hoping to re-open tomorrow (Wednesday), but we’ll update this page in the morning to confirm it either way.

Unfortunately, we are staying closed for another day today, to finish the flood clear up operation. The Red Door Deli will also be closed. Sorry for the further inconvenience.
