Making A Retro 3" Single Prong Powerlifting Belt
Our retro belts are made from 2 pieces of vegetable tanned shoulder from an English supplier. Each layer is 3-3.5mm thick, which when glued together give an overall thickness of 7-8mm.
Each layer is cut with a cutting tool on a clicker press before being hand cut to length then glued together.
... Once the glue dries the belt is stitched on a heavy duty sewing machine that is over 40 years old (honestly they don't make 'em like they used to!).
After the belt is glued we stamp out the holes for the rivets and deboss the logo with the brass embossing tool. The belt loop (keeper) is cut and embossed at this stage too.
Finally we assemble the belt, not before skiving the inside edges. Skiving chamfers the edges which makes the belts that bit more comfortable to the wearer, which is super noticeable at the bottom of a squat or when getting into starting position for a heavy deadlift.

How We Make A Weightlifting Belt ▪️ So I thought I'd take a few minutes to explain how we make a weightlifting belt. As we're the only UK manufacturer of bespoke weightlifting belts, it's probably not something you see a lot of. ▪️ Firstly, we do 2 types of belts - weightlifting belts and powerlifting belts. A quick video of the design process for a custom belt. Once your order is placed we will email you for any further info including images, font etc., so that we can get to work on the design of your belt.
We then put together a first draft on a belt so you can have a look how it’s gonna look and make any changes - sometimes what you have in your head might not look the same when it’s on a belt, so it’s important to see before we make it out of real leather.
Once the design is ...finalised the fun work begins! Next we send off the design to be digitised (this is a process where the image is converted into a sewing file for the embroidery machine). The digitisation creates all the settings for the embroidery machine including number of stitches, stitch type, stitch size and even the router the stitches take.
Then we get the leather embroidered and begin the process of physically making the belt! We try to take pictures throughout the stage; if you’d like us to document your belt as we make it let us know when you order and we will be happy to take a load of pictures and videos
