Monmouthshire Adult Ballet

For remembrance day - here's a link to Kenneth Macmillan's ballet Gloria (1980). Macmillan was inspired by Vera Brittain’s autobiographical Testament of Youth. A poem from it, ‘The War Generation: Ave’ is quoted in the programme book whenever Gloria is performed.

Such a lovely start for the new Monmouth evening class tonight. Great work from everyone in the beautiful Shire Hall. We finished with a version of the entrance of the swans from Swan Lake. This is an ongoing class so new members are welcome to start anytime.

*Starting tonight* Evening Monmouth class. Ideal for those working and can't make the daytime class. The class is beginners/mixed ability and suitable for new, continuing and returning dancers.

Welcome back to ballet! All our classes restart this week, including a totally new Monmouth evening class starting Thursday at 7pm. If you're wondering what our adult ballet classes are like take a look at the thoughts of one dancer below. X
"I’ve been attending classes for about 18 months. We have new starters almost every week and with good reason. Sian helps everyone develop at their own pace to achieve their goals. If you just want to join for fun that’s great but if you... want to take the medal tests to develop your skills Sian organises these too. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and we all make mistakes and laugh about it afterwards. Sian is very welcoming and patient and extremely knowledgeable. In the beginners and mixed ability classes most people wear leggings and comfy tops so don’t be put off by not having the ‘right kit’. The classes are mostly ladies age ranging from 20’s to retirement age (is that a polite way of saying it) and everyone is able to dance. It’s a pay as you go so you aren’t obliged to sign up for x amount of sessions at once, although you’ll be having so much fun you’ll not want to miss one. It doesn’t matter if you’ve danced before or not, the class is very supportive and everyone helps everyone else out. Go on, give it a go, you know you want to".
