Monmouthshire Roadworks Description
The Highways Department aims to keep motorists on the move through effective co-ordination of works on the highway.
The Highways Network Team deals with all aspects of Statutory Undertakers (gas, electric, water and telecom) works on the highway.
The team also co-ordinates all works on the highway to ensure there are no conflicts which would impede the expeditious movement of traffic on Monmouthshire's highway network.

EMERGENCY ROAD CLOSURE Morrison Utility Services (on behalf of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water) currently have an emergency road closure in place at ST ANN STREET, CHEPSTOW; this is to ensure the safe repair of a burst water main in the centre of the road, which is currently causing flooding concerns for residents living on this road. It is anticipated the closure will be in place until (and including) 12:00 hrs (midday) 05/11/2019 (or until such time as the works have been completed).... Given the urgent nature of this work, our Traffic Team are unable to circulate a copy of the traffic management plan; it will likely replicate that of the recent gas works. TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS MCC Operations Department will be erecting temporary traffic lights along STATION ROAD, ROGIET, due to a dangerous tree that requires felling. A40 : GIBRALTAR TUNNEL WORKS
Where and Why?
A contraflow arrangement will be installed on the A40 Gibraltar Tunnels, Monmouth to carry out essential maintenance works in both the northbound and southbound tunnel bores.
... The contraflow will be in place from 20:00hrs on Saturday 12th October 2019 until 06:00hrs on Wednesday 16th October 2019.
Safety Measures
During the entire closure period all wide abnormal load (Width greater than 3 meters and length more than 16.5 meters) will be requested to use the M5 & M4 to enter and exit South Wales.
Electronic and Hard advance signage will be utilised on the M4, A465, A40 and the A449 where possible to advise motorist to “Plan Ahead, Delays Expected, Monmouth” during these dates.
Highways England will also been contacted and advised, if possible, to set signs on the M5 south bound, more especially for wide/abnormal loads heading into South Wales.
