Beautiful Welsh morning. We're also back up online and our phone is working again as of last night. So apologies for anyone trying to get in touch over the last couple of weeks.

Christmas in June?

Last orders for thanksgiving birds tomorrow.
Usk Farmers Market is 18 years old this Saturday. They'll be celebrating with a raffle, face painting and music. And of course, local producers will be there selling their wares or taking orders for Christmas. It runs from 10am - 1pm at the Memorial Hall in Usk.
Scrumping for apples
Our farm is like fox heaven. Lots of woodland to hide in, plenty of wildlife to eat and big fat turkeys roaming around. So how do we keep our turkeys safe? Well we bring them into barns at night. But for the past couple of years we've had foxes taking turkeys during the day as well. We could put up electric fencing to enclose the turkeys in an area, using lots of plastic, cabling and batteries whilst also cutting the birds off from hedgerows where they forage for berries, shoots and insects, and where they rush to when they get a bit spooked and need to feel safe. So we've decided to employ 24 hour guards instead. Meet Cariad. (His friend and fellow turkey guardian, Blaze, is a little camera shy.)
Another lovely year talking food, farming and sustainability. Thanks to all our returning customers for raving about their Christmas turkey, especially in earshot of potential new ones as we tried to convince them that our turkeys are rather good.
Enjoying the ongoing summer ...
First forays outside, with a bit of cover overhead to help them feel safe. But soon the chicks will be big and bold enough to explore the fields and orchards. Hopefully by then you'll have Nanette's photos rather than my attempts.
This is the last day to order a veg box to pick up alongside your Christmas turkey. We're still taking turkey orders, this is just for the veg boxes!
