Join us to look for the special birds in this spectacular area.
Joint event with the Camlad Valley Community Wildlife Group, who will be helping us look for the birds which call Roundton Hill home. Peregrines & Red Kites nest nearby and are frequently seen, while Redstart and Pied Flycatcher nest on the reserve. Others birds we are likely to see or hear include Buzzard, Green Woodpecker, Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat, Wheatear, Blackcap and Raven.
Meet in the reserve car ...park. Please bring binoculars if you have them. Wear footwear suitable to the rough terrain and weather appropriate clothing. More details on our website: https://www.montwt.co.uk/…/2019-05-26-b ird-walk-roundton-hi…
If the weather might lead to the walk being cancelled, check the Camlad Valley Community Wildlife Group's website: http://www.shropscwgs.org.uk/…/camlad-c ommunity-wildlife-gr…

Art Oasis Spider almost home ! This fabulous spider sculpture was designed by Art and Design course students from NPTC Newtown and local blacksmith Spike Blackhurst as part of #MWTArtOasis project.
The sculpture was safely delivered into the hands of Newtown Town Council staff this morning who quickly got to work with the groundwork involved and it will be in place early next week . A huge Thank you so far to Davies Oriel Gallery , Newtown Town Council , Open Newtown.

Great to see a profusion of violets at some of the #PreciousPBFs sites yesterday. Also saw Small Tortoisehell and Peacock butterflies. We hope the Pearl Bordered Fritillary will approve too. Not long now!

Is it a bee? Is it a plane?! No, it's a bee-fly! On the wing now (this one was photographed at #LlanymynechRocks last week), keep an eye out for these little sun lovers in your neighbourhood! If you see one, report it to Bee-fly Watch, who also have tips on how to identify them: https://www.brc.ac.uk/soldierflies-and-al lies/bee-fly-watch

Have you heard a Chiffchaff singing yet this year? Probably the easiest of the migrant birds to recognise from song, as they sing their name! They are also usually the first to get back. Any day now! https://www.montwt.co.uk/…/tits-crests- and-warbl…/chiffchaff

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! To celebrate St David's Day here are some truly wild daffodils growing as they should - in profusion in a local Welsh wood. Find out more about Wild Daffodils on our website: https://www.montwt.co.uk/wildlife…/wild flowers/wild-daffodil

We've been out at #DyfnantMeadows and #CoedPendugwm Nature Reserves today, giving the bird and dormouse boxes a little TLC, ready for Spring. This gorgeous Pygmy Shrew was one of two seen.
We also saw the first clumps of frogspawn, even catching one female 'in the act'! Have you seen any yet? Check out this great advice from our friends at The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales: https://www.welshwildlife.org/…/frog-sp awn-season-need-know/

Have you seen a bee yet? This one was spotted on Saturday. It is a Chocolate Mining Bee (Andrena scotica) a solitary species. Queen bumblebees are more typical this early in the year.

Volunteers have been working hard clearing scrub and bracken on our #PreciousPBFs sites. This habitat management is vital to safeguard the future of the rare Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterfly.
One of these volunteers is James Bridge from Ysgol Uwchradd Llanfyllin High School Llanfyllin High School Sixth Form. Helping us with this habitat management benefits not only the butterflies, but also contributes to his Welsh Baccalaureate.
Dewi Morris says “The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s work with local high school sixth form agri students is vital for growing a greater understanding of how we all can help improve our environment.” Thanks James.

If you need some motivation on this dull, cold Tuesday, how about this gorgeous Red Kite, soaring over one of our #PreciousPBFs sites near #Welshpool yesterday?! Was it inspecting the habitat management work we are doing for the rare Pearl-bordered Fritillary there?! More likely hoping for us to flush out something tasty to eat!
