The new issue of Q magazine is out featuring “David Byrne: Backstage at The Greatest Show On Earth” and it has high praise for the show -
‘Byrne’s astonishing American Utopia stage show completely reinvents the pop concert. It has been described as “the best live show of all time”, but that might undersell it. This unprecedented mindmeld of modern dance, avant-garde theatre, art installation, soul revue and carnival parade makes the conventional rock show seem as old-fas...hioned as music hall...’ – Q

What a concert! Loved every minute of Paloma Faith! I have to give a BIG thank you to the staff at the arena . It was my sons first concert (age 10). Unfortunately, the warm up act was too loud and we had to leave as it was painful on my sons ears!

While we were leaving a steward could see he was upset and offered him a set of earplugs! We went to sit in the foyer until the show started. A lovely Steward named Ken came over to see if he was ok. We told him about his ears and before we knew it he had gone and returned with a sound engineer called Sam.

Sam then handed my son the biggest set of professional headphones he had seen!

My son was able to return to the concert to sing and dance the night away with Paloma!!

Such a kind gesture that meant so much to us!!

Thank you guys!!

Bring on the next tour Paloma! We’ll be in the front row with the headphones on!

Went to watch steps yesterday on the 29th November and would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for their help and kindness. I took my 7 year old daughter Jessica for her first ever concert but she has been unwell the last few days with a cough and really struggled when the vengaboys were performing because of the noise and heat. We sat in the foyer to let her cool off and the staff were absolutely amazing. They fussed over her and made her smile then allowed me to leave to get her some calpol. Just as we were going to give up and go home we were taken upstairs to the balcony where it was much cooler, slightly quieter and we were given seats so she could rest. There was a lady with blue hair that my daughter adored who came up halfway through the show to make sure jess was feeling better. We all loved the concert and jess even managed to dance to 5,6,7,8. Thank you so much xxx

User

Went to see 30 seconds to Mars, loved it, staff were really good, helpful, efficient and friendly, from the queues, to the bar, to the seating, great place to go, definitely go again!

User

Travelled all the way from South Yorkshire to see Paloma Faith here yesterday (18th March). The performance aside, which was amazing, I was very impressed with the venue. To call it an arena is a little misleading, much smaller and more personal than an arena. I will gladly be coming back to Cardiff for events in the future. There are no bad seats anywhere in the hall, the facilities are excellent and the location is superb. Great job Cardiff !!!

User

Fantastic staff who made sure i was okay during the meet and greet with Steps and even let my sister come in as they could see i wasn't in the best condition sadly. Balcony seats were great and much needed as my dancing days are behind me but still a fantastic night.

Only complaint was only two staff were in Gray's bar which meant we missed a little bit at the beginning of Steps but all staff were fantastic and so helpful even when some got annoyed after the concert had finished due to needing to go out a certain way. Thanks for a great night :)

User

Just been to see the script and I have to say showsec security weren’t any good. No tidy search done on bags or people and I know alcohol was taken in and people on shoulders so I couldn’t see tidy and not one security member went to tell them when there was one looking down from the top. Thought the searching would have been a lot better after saying about not taking big bags and things online and all they done was look down and say that’s fine. I do security myself and searching policy is better on the doors than theirs tonight! Disgusting and need to up their game big time for the next event!

User

The show Il Divo was great, no complaints there at all.

The problem we had was the food! Having to prepay £23 for a 2course meal is ok ish! But when it takes 15 minutes for the waiter to come to take your drinks order then another wait to get the drinks! Then to the food. We were the lucky ones we got our food after an hour. The tables around us weren’t so lucky, after 2 1/2 hours they were either getting refunds or their starters. This was about 20 minutes until the the start of the show.

The other problem we had is that one of our party is gluten intolerant. Having phoned up to check that there would be choices for her, I was told yes there is always more than one to choose from. Well. There was 1starter which was a red meat dish which she doesn’t eat. Two mains a chicken curry or a veg curry. Luckily enough she does eat curry, but not every one likes curry. Then they would be up a creak without a paddle so to speak. And if there was time for us to have a dessert then there was a choice of a chocolate brownie or a chocolate brownie

Have emailed to complain about the service and food but 48hours still no response.

Customer service is not one of their strong points. Definitely a D- needs improvement. Could do better. ( a lot better)

One idea would be to put half of the wait staff into the kitchen there was about 3 stood around doing nothing the whole time we were there. Another would be for someone to come around and apologise to everyone and let us know what was going on.

Went to go see Gary Barlow last night for my mothers birthday and the show was great accept the couple in front of us ruined it she turned around and threatened me for no reason attal so at first I said what ever then all we can hear is her making comments about me so my mother asked her politely to stop talking about me like that. The couple went to go see the bouncers and complained yet they left? So we got tooken out for 20 minuets for them to tell us we didn’t do anything wrong I mean in my eyes if that couple seriously had a problem they would have stayed and sort it out but clearly made a fool of themselves and left the building. I payed a lot of money for these tickets so I asked who ever was in charge I want a refund for missing twenty minuets of the show. We payed to go see the show not miss half of it. I think it’s ridiculous to tell us that they can’t refund me. It may be not a lot of money to some but I work hard to pay that out of my wages.

User

Saw Il Divo on Tuesday, who were amazing. However the 'pre show dining' was dire. Most people were refunded due to a ' catalogue of errors' resulting in a 90+ minute wait for poor quality and very poor value, food.

User

My 1st show here was in 1995 jimmy nail,

It is now 23 years on and been 30plus times.

Nowerdays i will travel to birmingham or further even though i live half hr away...

I just been to see Michael McIntryre, great show but the seating yet again is a disgrace and has been fot years, not upgraded ever.

Block 1 2 3 is 60 seats wide, that is wider than any venue in uk incliding 02 arena, genting arena despite theyre capacitites being 3 4 times larger.

Ur rear end hurts from the metal frame, u are cramped together to point where ur sat on each others laps.

Motorpoint arena owned by live nation a multi billionpound company who own ticketmaster, putting capcity and profit before any degree of comfort.

You pay a restoration fee on each ticket, and its had a touch of red paint up balcony by the snob boxes thats it.

Knock it down

Start again

Have the floor area 5 seats less per block wide, with comfy seats like genting arena.

Have sides higher wider.

I do not believe this venue will be as it is in 10 years time.

U have to eviolve

Brand new Swansea arena will take some business

And if bristol eventually build theyre 12000 arena this place will be on its knees...

User

Great show last night to watch Michael McIntyre.... however... going in through the doors, my bag was put into a box to check the size and I could see plainly that my bag could fit as it was a small shoulder bag, but for some particular reason, it wouldn’t fit, because it was placed awkwardly and made to look like it did not fit So what did I have to do? I had to pay £2 to check it in. I ignored this because it’s great for making sure people are safe and that there arnt bags just hanging all over the gig to fall over... But...... I then had the wonderful privilege of having to retrieve it at the end.... I had to make my way up to the 2nd floor (which when I put my bag in, the women said it would be at the front door waiting for me). Trying to climb the stairs to wherever I was going to get this bag was a challenge as everyone obviously needed to get theirs at the same time, so it was rammed pack of people going up in one line and then people passing in their line on the way down after getting their bags. By the time I reached the slow climb to the 2nd floor, I was greeted by several members of staff shouting for my ticket, as if I was deaf!!! I thought I’d entered a training camp for the marines! And when people were trying to make their way in, the staff were shouting at them to move ‘faster’ and ‘look lively ‘ as if they were being too slow....you couldn’t get in any faster or people would of been falling over so I do not for the life of me understand why they need to shout at everyone to move faster!!It was ridiculous!! Very very poor system... do not bother taking a bag at all if you come here.

User

3rd year running now for the darts and last night was the worse. £5:10 A pint..... so every transaction you had to wait for change... I missed 6 legs of MVGs game whilst a moderate queue simply failed to get served. Surely motorpoint does not need 10p that bad ??? Total numpties who made that executive decision!!! I got 3 pints then waited for £4:70 change, which she gave me in 50p pieces !!! I was not the only one moaning believe me, ever heard of vending machines? What about mobile vendors that most concerts adopt? A mini bar for the table crowd..... there are plenty of options but I am sure it is only profit that will be considered....... poor attitude.

User

Your door and security staff are an excellent example... Of when the right hand doesn't speak to the left hand. Incompetent doesnt even come close, a few classes on basic communication wouldn't go a miss. Turned up with a ticket, queued, went through security, only to be told I needed a stamp to verify my ticket belonged to me. Why you cant check my id when you check my ticket is beyond me. Got sent to the box office, queued, only to be sent back to where I came from, to have my id and ticket checked at the same time. Complete and utter incompetence. And I paid 45 quid for the privilege...

User

Went to see Michael McIntyre and seats were awful. On second balcony with two metal bars and the view was totally restricted. I booked early and had the cream

Of the crop but thought an elevated view would suit us how wrong could I be. I complained to ticket master but when they contacted motorpoint arena they were told the view is not restricted at all. I’m disgusted by this response and will be making a formal

Complaint to motorpoint and certainly won’t be attending events at the facility again!!

User

Very annoyed at being made to pay £2 to leave my handbag in the cloakroom as it was over A4 size. No notification of this when I booked the tickets or on the tickets themselves. I would have taken a smaller bag had I known of this policy. Spent time searching for the different cloakroom on the 2nd floor for pag pick up. I then had to queue to get my bag with other disgusted patrons.

User

Tickets booked and read and confirmed seat numbers, got sent seats further back and seen the seats we booked on getmein for more than double the price but the website for tickets online wasnt working thats how I know they booked afterwards. Should cancel their tickets and send tickets my friend actually was sold as the people who have the tickets we were told dont even want them just trying to make a prift whereas we do am hearbroken as only date last ever performance.

User

This venue annually hosts the Cardiff Arms Fair where arms companies who supply dodgy regimes and serial human rights abusers are allowed to exhibit. Shameful to make Cardiff complicit in massacres including bombing kids. Very poor.

User

Terrible service every time you come here. Either waiting outside for hours or hit you with “rules changed this morning” in regards to bag sizes. I understand security but not a care for my partners bag (let alone anyone else’s) thrown into a wheelie bin to be collected from a different location. A4 bag size recommended by email, yet the box they test this in, is smaller than A4 size and you’re not allowed to lie it down. Spoils a night before it’s even begun.
