The S4C programme Codi Pac filmed an episode in Newport where presenter Geraint Hardy visits some of the city's most famous sights and lesser known gems.
In the show, which will be aired on Friday 7 September, Mr Hardy follows the recommendations of the people who have lived in Newport their entire lives.
One of those filmed is local historian Allan Cook who shares some of the history of Newport in the upcoming episode.
... Mr Hardy takes a trip to the Celtic Manor Resort and has a go on SUPAKART , the go kart racing circuit which is located in the Newport Leeway Industrial Estate.
He also visits including the West Usk Lighthouse, the transporter bridge, and has a bite to eat at Holy Cheesus.
The programme also visits the Newport Ship and finds out more about its history and plans for the future.
In this series of Codi Pac, Mr Hardy leaves his passport at home and roams Wales to discover nooks and crannies that are well worth a visit.
As well as Newport, the travel show also visits locations in Wales including Aberystwyth, Welshpool and Fishguard.
The Codi Pac episode featuring Newport will be shown on S4C on Friday, September 7 at 8.25pm and will have English and Welsh subtitles.
You can also watch it on demand on S4C Clic, BBC iPlayer and other platforms.

#newportship is delighted to be working with the Nautical Archaeology Society for this fabulous conference. The lineup of speakers is fascinating with 2 separate sessions on our Ship and the history surrounding the project and the support from FoNS. Early bird tickets are available for the conference (one or both days), the Friday evening welcome event and the dinner on Saturday evening. Concessionary prices available to NAS and/or FoNS members.

Our planned events list for the remainder of the year, keep an eye out for updates. We also have loads of unique gifts for all ages. #newportmuseum #newportship #christmasiscoming #yearofthesea #craftfayre

Some great work from historian Ed Fox

Our Ship was clinker built in the Basque Country around 1449-1450. The experts have declined to agree a ‘style’, but classify her as a large clinker built Basque merchant vessel.

User

Our medieval scribe is in residence today, open until 4pm. Come on down and test your writing skills #medievaltimes #quilpen #yearofthesea @ Newport Medieval Ship

User

Our medieval scribe is here and ready to show his skills. See him prepare the parchment with dogfish skin to make a good writing surface.

User

Sharpen your nib, charge your inkwell and shuffle your paper. Our scribe will be setting up his office and recording the events of the day in classic medieval script. Test your skills in forming your letters as they were in the 15th century and take home your efforts to put on your wall.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Bank Holiday Monday - so the #newportship is open to visitors. We will be there from 10.30am until 4.00pm and will be happy to tell you our stories.

User

Fascinating to watch. Our timbers would have been cleaved and shaped in the same way.

User

Great work by Toby and Bob. Many thanks - it looks amazing

Meet our resident merchant rat, currently known as Usk. You may meet him at the ship centre or on an adventure with our events team #newportmuseum #merchant #newportship #yearofthesea

Here are some photos of today's 1:10 scale 3D ship modelling work! FONS volunteer Bob Evans has made an outstanding rudder assembly!

User

Wonderful work being do and always a treat to visit.

User

What a lovely informative team. Greeted us outside and were very kind and accommodating to my stepson. Fascinating project. Worth a little trip and a donation. 30 minutes to an hour visit. Has a small shop. Located on the industrial estate however you are directed by ship signs

User

What a fantastic and fascinating project and one worth visiting to experience the volunteers enthusiasm and knowledge! 100% recommended, thank you!

User

Truly one in a million.

User

Thoroughly enjoyed my personal guided tour this afternoon. Thank you Kate for such a fascinating insight to the history of the ship and the work being done.

I highly recommend a visit and will definitely be back myself.

There are only two open days each year. I attended the one in July, and it was absolutely worth it. The ship is being restored (i.e. all the pieces are apart, inside tanks, covered by tarpaulins, and not visible), so what you are actually seeing at an Open Day is information exhibits about the ship, with a (wonderfully enthusiastic) guided tour, and the tools used to restore the ship. Because everything is presented by an enthusiastic guide, this is a much more human and engaging thing than a museum visit. It's educational, fascinating, and an excellent opportunity to glimpse behind the scenes of archeology & science. I do hope they get the funding to build a museum (which could easily be comparable to the Oslo Viking Ship Museum if it is built), but right now, it feels very special and unique indeed to be able to visit the Newport Ship on one of only a handful of days when this is possible.

User

The ship is open every Friday and Saturday now and Bank Holiday Monday's. Visited today for the first time, I would highly recommend it. The volunteers are so enthusiastic and knowledgeable it was a thoroughly enjoyable 2 hours. I hope lots of people visit - local people and visitors to the area. It's free of charge but please put something into the donation box and visit the shop too. I feel very proud that this ship was found in Newport.

User

The process of conserving the ship is a fascinating story and is a museum exhibit in its own right. I am looking forward to seeing the process over the next five years and finally seeing it all out back together. I will be returning over the years and will pass the words around in South Wales! Everyone should visit and support this wonderful Newport discovery!

User

I was involved with the project when it first moved to Maesglas. Such an inspirational story, an incredible archaeological find which really brought the local people together. It's great to see how it has continued to stay vibrant and inclusive :-)

User

Great display of artifacts... Really wonderful that they saved the remnants of this ship for future generations

User

Film making at the Medieval Ship Centre most Saturdays allows you to star in your own family movie and have it sent to you as a very special, personal momento of your visit as the children Find the Rats. Here's what the Yates Family had to say about the experience.

"All received. It's fab. Thank you Babs. I'll send you a link to the post..is already shared in Saturday. It got lots of attention. Do you have the still of the family photo? That's a lovely image.

User

Fascinating project. Very much a work in progress, but a fabulous story to be told!

User

Brilliant evening at the Newport ship with the rime of the ancient mariner and other entertainments. Well done to all the organisers. And thank you for the tea for two at the Celtic manor

User

Absolutely fascinating. The scale and intricasies involved is mind blowing. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Look forward to somehow getting involved in the future!

User

A great visit this afternoon. Many thanks to Liz for such an informative and interesting tour!
