About Noah'S Ark Children'S Hospital Charity

Raising funds to ensure that Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales has the best resources available so that the 73, 000 treated there each year have access to the best facilities and care from world-class medical teams, technology and equipment.

Noah'S Ark Children'S Hospital Charity Description

The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity is the official charity for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales.

Having raised more than £20 million to build and equip the now fully operational Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales, today we continue to work hand in hand with the NHS, providing funding for the most up to date equipment and facilities. We also fund support services for families like the play specialist team, who help children be children, despite the difficulties they are facing.

By donating or fundraising on our behalf, you are playing a part in supporting the 73, 000 children who receive specialist and life-saving treatment at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales each year. Some of them only stay for an hour, others are patients here for their whole childhood, but you are helping to make a difference to each and every one of them.

In addition to our on-going commitment to the children's hospital for Wales, we have recently launched the Tiny Lives Appeal which aims to raise £1 million over two years towards the development and expansion of the University Hospital of Wales neonatal unit.

Whether its running a marathon, holding a bake off, making a monthly donation or leaving a gift in your will, there are hundreds of ways to get involved in our work. You can support us as an individual, as part of a local group or through your business. Our website is full of ideas so you’re bound to find something that suits you. Visit www. noahsarkcharity.org or give us a call on 029 2184 7310. We’re here to help and we’d love to hear from you.

Faithful walker Hannah Davies says:

We have a very good reason to be feeling good this Friday!
You may have read previously about Harrison, Sonny and Eden-Olive, three babies all in the hospital since birth. Their mums, Viccy, Emma and Michelle have formed an amazing bond after being thrown together by circumstances none of them would have chosen, developing a friendship that will last the rest of their lives.
It was fantastic news when Harrison waved goodbye to the children’s hospital to go home at the end of... June, so we wanted to share with you the amazing news that Eden-Olive will be going home today and Sonny will be home by Tuesday! We are over the moon for them! It means so much to the families to finally have their babies at home with them permanently after such an incredible journey.
You can read more about these amazing babies and their mums special friendship in our summer newsletter https://noahsarkcharity.org/…/summer-ne wsletter-2018-issue…/

This week we have Oily Cart visiting the hospital as part of National Theatre Wales #NHS70 Festival. Children are helping Captain, Mermaid, Bubbles, Sponge and Drummer Man on the hunt for lost treasure in their multi-sensory, immersive hydrotherapy pool-based show, Splish Splash, designed specifically for children with complex learning needs.
The hydrotherapy pool was funded by the Noah’s Ark Charity as part of a £7 million commitment to the hospital’s second phase. The hydrotherapy pool is used by the physiotherapy team to provide support and relief to children with a range of conditions, the warm water naturally eases muscles, allowing children to exercise with less pain.
It's thanks to our wonderful supporters, like you, that we have this amazing facility within the hospital.

We want to say a massive thank you to Rich, Tom and Tim from WSP Cardiff who have raised an amazing £4570 for the charity through their epic walk from Barry to Anglesey, including the Welsh three peaks! What an achievement!

On the 18th of each month, in celebration of our 18th birthday year, we're posting a guest blog on our website. July's is authoured by one of our brillant supporters, Ian Campodonic.
Ian's daugher, Elodie, suffered a stroke at just a few days old and spent time on both the intensive care unit and later on Pelican Ward. Here's their story: bit.ly/2LplHGb

Play specialist Juliet has been working with ten-month-old Eden Olive for four months now. Eden has been in the hospital since she was born with oesophageal atresia, which meant the top part of her oesophagus was not connected to her stomach.
Because early attempts to feed Eden orally were painful for her, she quickly became frightened of having anything near her mouth and has always hated getting anything on her hands. With lots of hard work through play, Eden had come such... a long way and to see her with messy hands is magical for those who have been on the difficult journey with her!
Mum, Michelle, says: “Juliet and the whole play therapy team on Island ward are fantastic and have worked so hard with Eden-Olive. Having had life-saving operations and many invasive experiences, play time really is the best time and makes it all better”
Eden-Olive is pictured four months ago, and this week – a huge difference!

Earlier this month, Kate and her 12-year-old daughter, Erin, took part in our first Zip Slide event to say thank you for the care her younger children, Joe and Molly, have received at the hospital. Joe, aged six, has been treated at the hospital for neurofibromatosis and bilateral optic nerve gliomas while 18-month-old Molly spent time on the paediatric intensive care unit after experiencing respiratory failure. She was later diagnosed with a rare chromosome abnormality.
Bet...ween them, Kate and Erin have raised a fantastic £300 for the charity.
Kate says: “Without this amazing hospital and the fantastic support it has provided for our children and our whole family around them, I honestly don’t know what we would do. The outdoor play area has been a godsend, making such a difference to how the children feel about coming to the hospital”
Thank you both, we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing supporters like you!

It’s so lovely to see the hospital garden being used by so many families in this gorgeous weather! The Edwards family are here with seven-month-old Poppi, who’s receiving treatment for a bone infection. Poppi’s two-and-a-half year old brother, Rhys, is enjoying a picnic with his family for dinner this evening as a special treat for being such a good big brother!
It’s thanks to your support that families can spend time together like this in hospital.

This time last week, supermum Rachel Spencer from Cardiff was well into her self-styled Zipathalon challenge!
Rachel knew she wanted to take part in our first ever Zip Wire event as a way to say thank you to the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for taking such good care of her son, Jake, who turns two in November and has been a patient since birth.
Wanting to create even more of a challenge, Rachel decided to cycle 40 miles to the Zip Wire event in Chepstow, take part, then cy...cle and run back to the children’s hospital. The sun was shining and Rachel did an amazing job, setting off at 6.20am and arriving back to the hospital 11 hours and 80 miles later!
We’re so proud of Rachel for creating her own Zipathalon challenge and her amazing efforts have raised £2,025 to be used both to support the neonatal unit and the children’s hospital.

A very big sunny Friday thank you to class 4JT pupils at Ysgol y Deri who have worked very hard over the last year holding a bake sale, selling Christmas crafts and most recently making and selling pitta pizzas to raise funds for us.
You're all superstars and we promise that the money you've raised will go straight to helping the children who need it.

The play specialists are keeping the children busy celebrating 70 years of the NHS today! The children are enjoying the lovely craft workshops being held in the foyer of the Children's Hospital all day! #NHS70

Today is the NHS's 70th birthday and here are two of the millions of faces it makes a difference to every single day.
In December 2016, seven-year-old Dylan was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer called b-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma and has been a patient at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales ever since. His mum, Siobhan, writes poignantly about the experience of having a child with cancer in her blog The Little Big C.
In her most recent post to mark the... NHS' birthday, she speaks about the children's hospital and the people within it that makes her family's journey a little easier to deal with. It perfectly expresses why as a charity we are so proud to support the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales. Siobhan has kindly allowed us to repost it here: bit.ly/2KBB8yA
Happy 70th Birthday NHS.

Yesterday my son Theo came into Starfish Outpatients for a skin prick test. The poor thing had to have 8 pinpricks done which is unpleasant for an 18 month old and scary.

Sharon, one of the play therapy team, came along to distract Theo and I can't praise her enough. She was funny and warm and kind and I can say for a fact that Theo's procedure was 100% more positive for her presence. So glad that Noah's Ark fund these important staff.

What a wonderful hospital experience we had for Clara's hernia operation. The staff at Noah's Ark are superb; the nurse who sang Hickory Dickory Dock with me to help keep Clara calm as she was put under, Catherine the lovely anaesthetist, the amazing surgeons, Angela from the recovery team who cwtched Clara afterwards, the volunteers who provided sweet tea aplenty, the brilliant nurses, Robert the friendly porter...awesome people, every one of you! Thank you for your dedication and providing such excellent care.

Clara is now back to her cheeky, smiley self.

We’ve seen a little too much of this building these last six weeks, with Meggie’s broken leg and Billy’s septic arthritis. We’ve been so fortunate that both have made brilliant recoveries, thanks to the fantastic care they’ve received and those amazing #NHS staff who’ve gone the extra mile for them and us. The surgeon who cuddled and comforted Billy in Recovery after performing his emergency surgery before I arrived from the ward. The radiographer who pretended to take an X-ray of Meggie’s toy cat to encourage Meggie not to be frightened of having an X-ray herself. The Health Care Assistant who took such care and time to be as quiet as possible doing Billy’s nighttime observations to avoid waking him when he was so exhausted and in desperate need of sleep. The nurse who spent ages trying to find a yellow cast for Meggie, her favourite colour. The doctor who said she was going to pretend she hadn’t heard my profession as she wanted to treat me like a mother, not a nursing colleague. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner in A&E who identified that Billy might have the septic arthritis and who acted so swiftly. The volunteers who bought us so much hot, sweet tea.... the list goes on.

There are no words to comprehend how amazing the staff are here from the surgeons, to the theatre recovery staff, to the nurses on the ward, the healthcare assistants the volunteers & everyone else in between! We had a 3 night stay back in March in the horrendous snowy weather with our son Oakley and the staff went above & beyond including sleep ins, his surgery went ahead even though the weather his awful and everyone was stuck I honestly can’t praise them enough for everything they have done for us we had another stay last week just for the one night but again all the staff were fantastic again and go above and beyond every time. They deserve all the praise they get, they work hard & they genuinely are such amazing people! Thank you all

Thank you so much to all the staff on Owl ward! During our stay this week, all the members of staff were so caring and helpful- from our pre-op assessment over the telephone to being discharged, all the staff were incredible and made our experience so much easier. My little boy will be returning for another operation in the new year and we know that he will be offered the best possible care whilst staying at the hospital again.

Thank you so much! X

Such an amazing charity. Can’t tell you how much our friends and family admire all you do

User

Our stay on the owl ward is always as pleasant as a hospital visit can be. The staff are welcoming and helpful. They are understanding of you and your child's needs. The facilities are cleaned and the staff doing food etc are bright and cheery. Some staff go out of their way to make the children feel safe and comfortable and this is so reasurraing. And so close to Christmas where stuff must be feeling run down/tired and stressed they have nothing but smiles and jokes for the children. Thank you to all on the ward and office staff/surgeons etc who made the whole experience calm and pleasant.

Our 5 year old son had a very nasty break to his arm on Friday and was admitted to the Heath. We want to say a big thank you to the nurses, doctors and surgical team of children's A&E and the children's ward. They were so efficient, thorough, caring and nothing was too much trouble. They are a real credit to our NHS and we can't thank them enough xxx

Our 10 month old had bronchiolitis. A serious virus for someone that age! We couldn’t of asked for better care. From our original admission to the High Dependency Unit. You were all fantastic. One to one care, the nurses giving us reassuring advice and Lola (our daughter) being able to experience the Sensory Room; wow! Utterly amazing and we thank you for effectively saving our daughters life. I have now set up a monthly donation that I hope will help pay the doctors and nurses that do such a phenomenal job and equipment that keep children entertained at such stressful times. Thank you.

I am here at the moment with my 9 year old son Joshua, who was admitted on Monday. We were initially in the assessment unit called Seahorse and then taken to Jungle Ward. Wow is all I can say. The hospital is amazing, but above all that the staff are totally amazing. My son has had THE best care from ALL staff and cannot thank them enough. All too often today people complain about the NHS and the state of it. Well it is not because of the staff I can tell you. Imagine how they feel everyday with shortages and cutbacks. The care my son has received has been second to none and we would both like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Very happy with my Sons operation it went perfect. Thanks for everything.

Only disappointment was the amount of dogends around hospital. Literally thousands upon thousands. Also the people allowed to smoke in non smoking areas yuk

Thank you.

I cannot thank the staff which include nurses, healthcare assistants, the Noah’s ark play team and Physio’s for being not just absolutely amazing at their job but for being amazing people too. 6 weeks we were on owl ward ladybird and regardless of the reasons my Taylor was in it was such a pleasurable stay. They couldn’t do enough for Taylor and us and spoilt him terrible . He had his birthday at the Hospital and it was his best one yet! I hope we never have to visit hospital again but if we did it would be such a relief knowing what is there for my children and how well they are looked after. Thank u to absolutely everyone from the bottom of our hearts Xxxxxx Taylor Harris and Mum Ladybird 6 Xxxxx

My daughter and I did the family charity walk for the hospital last year and I feel so glad that we did. Well done you hard-working bunch of people and thank you.
