Parish Of Newton, Nottage & Porthcawl Description

It has three main centres of worship: -

The Parish Church of Saint John the Baptist was consecrated in the 12th Century. It is located in the village of Newton a few miles to the east of Porthcawl town centre. There is a Sunday school that meets in the nearby church hall.

All Saints Church is located within the Porthcawl town centre at Victoria Avenue. It is by far the largest church in the Parish and was consecrated in 1914. This church acts as the Parish 'headquarters' and houses the main administration office. It also has a Sunday school that meets in the hall at the rear of the main building. St. David's Church is the newest church building in the Parish, being consecrated in 1992. Prior to this date a small wooden church stood on the site. It is located just off the village of Nottage, which is just to the north west of Porthcawl town centre. There is a Junior Church too.

In addition to these the Parish also has a smaller Church at Trecco Bay (St Mary's). Worship began as it developed as a holiday centre in a variety of places on the site. Clerics from within and outside the diocese would come with their families on 'holiday' and look after the worship and mission. In 1964 the present church was built by Sir Lesley Joseph, then the owner of the site. It is build in the shape of a tent - a reminder of earlier days at Trecco Bay. Today it is serviced by the parish and has a Sunday Eucharist during July and August.
