Two of my sons attend Penglais, the eldest started in Sept 2012 and the younger 2014. They are thriving. My wife died of cancer in Nov 2013. Before she died, my son's head of year spent the best part of a day with us, together we planned how the school would support and help our children through the most appalling time. The school has done everything that it could to support our boys. It's pastoral care has been quite simply outstanding. Communication between home and school has always been excellent. The school has gone through a tough time recently with the retirement of the Very well respected and long serving Head Teacher, about five or six years ago, always difficult when such vital personnel has to be replaced and the impostion of massive cuts to the school budget, over the same period. Despite this and the enormous pressures of league tables, Penglais has a core of wonderful, dedicated and enormously hard working staff. My sons love their school and are very loyal to it. I think that we see it as it is; a place of learning and encouragement where all pupils are valued and one where like most if not all state schools, there are severe problems caused by chronic lack of funding and availability of experienced, confident staff. I am saddened by the pressures so many of the staff and pupils experience and hugely impressed by their shared resilience and determination to make Penglais the best school it can be. In my opinion, Penglais is a very good school indeed and what faults it has are really to do with the dreadful undermining that the Teaching profession has undergone over the last five decades, Nationally by successive ideologically driven governments.

I'm embarrassed to say that I waste 6 hours a day here. 9 out of 10 teachers are below par and don't care about you. 9.5 out of 10 students smoke or do drugs... (Not me)
Our last headmaster ran after the pressure of the job was too much for him.
To any parents considering putting their children here I ask is you, have you considered moving to another town?

I'm a father of a child at this school, I have communication issues getting any information out of the school concerning my sons education (I don't live with my son but it has been agreed with his mother I should receive all school updates from them concering him) they keep telling me they will send me reports etc & yet I have had nothing in the year he has been there.

They don't answer the phones on reception 9 times ouf ot 10 & it's very difficut to get anyone to contact you. Very poor service I just hope their teaching skills are better
