We went all around City centre trying to find real 1950s clothes for an upcoming party, couldn't find a thing, then luckily someone mentioned Penny Lane Vintage. We all managed to find the perfect dress, there was a good variety of authentic vintage and a new range of vintage style dresses in bigger sizes that had just come in. The owner was very knowledgeable and helped us all accessorise with gloves, hats, shoes and beautiful vintage jewellery. Felt and looked like we'd stepped back in time. The changing room was a Mr Benn experience, Had lots of laughs and dancing too alongside! It was a disappointment to step back into the real world when we left the shop. Highly recommend.

This really is a treasure trove of all things vintage and retro from the 1920s through to the 80s. Hats, handbags, jewellery, dresses and homewares. I've picked up some lovely items from Belinda's shop. Plus you can get a lovely coffee and cake or lunch in the French cafe opposite. Well worth a trip

Spent ages looking around this lovely little gem of a shop. Could have bought everything in there. Will definitely be going back, time and time again.

User

Really looking forward to a browse for some Christmas presents. This is one of the best vintage shops I’ve ever seen and I’ve been to most in South Wales! The shop looks lovely, there’s an excellent range of clothes and accessories for men and women and some gorgeous little pieces for the home too. Belinda the shop owner is very friendly and knowledgeable and will help you if you need some advice, or just leave you to browse and get lost in the past - nothing nicer! Thoroughly recommend this little gem!

Penny Lane is full of great quality vintage clothing and collectables. The owner is so helpful and knowledgeable. It was good fun to look around the shop and make a couple of vintage purchases!

User

Lovely shop where you could find good quality vintage clothing or jewellery but also quaint objects from the past. Like the tardis, it's a great time machine which bring back the elegance from the 40s to the 80s to our new millennium. :-)

User

Lovely place. As i looked around so many memories came flooding back. Really puts a smile on your face. Something in there that someone can relate too.

User

I just bought two gorgeous outfits from here on thursday. What a treasure trove of beautiful items

Great! Found a Vintage shop that actually sells a large selection of quality menswear. Lots of Harris tweeds, crombies, brogues, leathers and accessories. Bought a rare polka dot tootal scarf and original Farah trousers, chuffed that I found this shop tucked away in Wellfield Court Arcade off Wellfield Road in Roath. (Had a great lunch opposite too in Cafe Du Chat Noir. Will be back soon!

Found this gem of a shop when visiting family just before Xmas, bought all our last minute presents, which proved to be great hits, beautiful jewellery which the owner gift wrapped for us, my wife bought stunning 1950s cocktail dress and I treated myself to amazing harris tweed, prices were very reasonable, owners are friendly & fun & shop was full of quirky, quality & historical items that owners knew the history of which made browsing & shopping very interesting. Will be back soon to treat ourselves to one of the Turkish lights, please don't sell!

User

Fantastic shop with so much variety in stock. Frequently buy from here and everything I've bought has been at a great price.

came in with my girlfriend jo last week before we went to manchester for chrismtas. just saw that jo left a 1 star review with no explination and felt bad so thought i would elaborate.

nothing really wrong with shop itself (except its a bit cold inside didnt seem to be heating but dont know if it was just broke?) all the lights are very pretty. was looking for a nice outfit for christmas party and as i like vintage fashion would find it here. i was pretty disapointed by choice. i know its a vintage shop but all the clothes were so old fashioned. not like glamourous fashionable vintage but a bit like clothes my gran would wear. not a great amount of choice for young people or people who are fashion consious?

would have liked to have seen more fashionable clothes like other vintage stores but dont think i am the right demographic for this particular shop?

jo was more upset than i was and said she felt mislead by fb page and didnt like the fur but i think her rating is a bit unfair so have written a review to explain

Visited the store with some friends recently (some of whom I see have already commented) after having lunch at the French cafe across the way. dissaponted to find most of the products damaged in some way, yet still priced as though they were in mint condition. Stones missing from jewellery, broken clasps, holes in shirts dresses and trousers, chipped household goods, damaged shoes and hats... all very expensive. A friend of mine bought a few cheaper bits but we were made to feel very awkward for browsing without buying as though we were doing something wrong. It's a terrible shame as I love vintage goods but i do not want to pay through the nose for something that is ultimately broken. The shop itself if very pretty and in a prime location so it's an awful shame. However just because something is old does not mean it's okay to price something extortionately high when it is unwearable in present conditions and full of holes and moth eaten.

There are several vintage shops in town and in the bay that sell vintage goods that are cheaper and in better condition so unfortunately I will probably stick to those shops. I really hope that one day this shop improves its quality or prices accordingly because it's so lovely and I would like to see it succeed. I may return in the future to see how things have changed but unfortualty my friends were seemingly permemnantly discouraged so I cannot say they same for them.

well well well where to start? i have lived in cardiff for 10+++ years and try to shop independant and local as much as possible. me and my mrs love vintage style fashion etc and love going to vintage fairs etc to shop around.

was chuffed when we heard about this little shop through friends and eat at the frech cafe across the way so popped in a couple of times with varying results

let me warn you from what I have seen there are three people who work here a young girl an older man and an older woman. i love the man and the younger girl. the man is outgoing and friendly the girl is polite and happy to chat. both make you feel welcomed and offer a smile and a little chat. without coming off too stong. the older woman s the opposite. she will hound ou from the moment you walk in to buy something. i feel like someone is breathing down our neck as soon as we start to browse cant even touch anything without her telling me how much it is and ask if i want to buy it. she gets mardy if you do not buy anything and does not make you feel comortable as a customer. she is always on her phone scowliing at customers whenever i walk in and does not make you feel welcomed. it is not good cusomer service to be told how much everything iis and made to feel pressured to buy something!! and when i dont want to buy anything i shouldnt be made to feel punished!! i know everyone has a business to run but if you want it to succeed maybe brush up on customer service skills just saying!

you would think this gives you a 1/3 chance of having a bad experience but sadly this is not the case. i would be more than happy to shop with the young girl and the older man but the older woman seems to be there the most out of any other the other workers which puts me off going in when i walk passed.

now onto my second grievance. the prices. when i fist came in here about a year ago the prices were reasonable to high but everything in store was a gem. now they are just high high high and the quality is going down.

in the summer me and my mrs came in to look for some bits for a holiday. there were dresses with lose stiches and holes priced at £50 or 60 and my mrs found a pair of top shop shorts in there for £18. my mrs had the same pair and only paid £15 straigh from top shop!! i have seen broken or dirty shoes pots frames etc all ridiculously overpriced there was a box with the seems coming apart and completely broken and unusable in ther for something stupid like 25!! worse thing i have ever seen is a bunch of things i had seen on ebay for pennies in there for a ton of money. there were stuffed butterflys i had seen online for £2 on sale for over 30 and some cheap chinese mass produced so called vintage clothes in there for well over 40 when they cost less than a giver online.

there is a difference between making a profit and ripping people off. ripping people off is just bad business and horrible.

i try not to post bd reviews anywhere as my mam always told me if you cant say nothing nice best not to say anything at all but my mrs has come back feeling upset and embarrased a few times now because shes been made to feel bad for not wanting to spend a fortune on tat and i thint this attitude needs to stop. my advice is to reevalute quality price and either hand busines over to man and younger girl completey or sit down and take notes on how to deal with the public because shopping should be a nice experence not an uncomfortable one.

i think its such a shame that the shop has gone this way as it used to be lovely only a year or so a go. but i see it has one an award so sucess has probably gone to the managers head and now they think they can treat people as they please! i would love to come back if things went back to how they were but dont want to subject myself or my wife to being made to feel like we are naughty school children everytime we talk in!!
