Baby Teeth DO Matter!
Take your child to the dentist during their summer break. Tooth decay remains the most common reason for young children to go into hospital.
Tooth decay can be prevented and the key messages are:
... START brushing their teeth as soon as they get their first tooth BRUSH teeth last thing at night before going to bed and one other time during the day USE fluoride toothpaste REDUCE the amount of sugary foods and drinks.

It's important to encourage the elderly and vulnerable to drink water regularly in the warm weather. This helps to prevent them from getting dehydrated. #staysunsafe

Are you going on holiday soon? Remember to check if you need vaccinations 2-3 months before you travel and order your repeat medication in plenty of time. #YMYH

**WHAT A DEMENTIA FRIENDLY HOSPITAL**
"We had to visit A&E with my grandfather today and from checking in on reception, to going into Minors and then over to majors the visit was so well managed.
... "We had the pleasure of meeting Sian, your dementia nurse who I have to say is an absolute credit to Cwm Taf Health Board. She was absolutely amazing, supplied us with the ‘forget me not’ sign for his bed which I thought was a lovely idea and during conversation she mentioned the new dementia-friendly car parking places, the new screens (like living rooms and kitchens) and all the other amazing work she’s been doing for dementia patients.
"Even things like background music, hand muffs with tassels and dolls.
"Yes you're a hospital, but I think it’s fantastic to meet such an enthusiastic and energetic member of your staff like Sian, who has the enthusiasm to make a dementia patients visit as comfortable as she possibly could.
"My grandfather has suffered for 9 years, and going back when he was first diagnosed there was hardly any knowledge, and definitely not hospital visits like we had today.
"I take my hat off to Sian, and would also like to say a big thank you to all your other dementia friendly staff, including the female consultant in Majors, and all the nursing staff at Majors who were out of this world with my grandfather today."

THANK YOU NHS - HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY This is Presley-Ottis, born 12/2/18, looked after by the dedicated staff at the Special Care Baby Unit. If it wasn't for these nurses and doctors Presley wouldn't be 5 months old now. The care they gave was amazing, not only looking after our critically ill granddaughter but also looking after our emotional needs. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will forever be grateful for the care and compassion throughout our time with you all. You are all amazing hard working people and we love you all xxx❤❤❤xxx #NHS70 #NHS70CYMRU

Would like to thank all the staff working in A&E Minors this afternoon/Evening who looked after & treated my 89 year old grampa, especially Sian who initially triaged him, Laura & Enfys for cleaning him up & putting him at ease. Very grateful to you all & for all that you do! Thank you

User

Would like to thank all the midwives and nurses on the maternity ward and also in SCBU, they all went above and beyond for me and my little boy who was born 5 weeks early due to complications. The care we both received was second to none and we appreciate everything the staff did for us. My little boy is now thriving thanks to the doctors and nurses who looked after him during a very difficult time. Thank you all

User

Ward 6 staff are just amazing. What they do is truly truly incredible. Thank you for looking after me the past 4 days. Everyone from the cleaners right up to the main Doctors. Also a big shout out to the maxi team. Incredible words can't describe how grateful i am with what you have done for me.

Spent 9 day’s here, 5 on bed rest after fracturing my femur and 4 post op after a hip replacement. I can’t praise the staff highly enough, both on the wards and A& E, from the cleaners to nurses to doctors. Everyone was so kind and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. The wards were very clean and I was very surprised by the food, it was delicious. Thank you to everyone involved in my care.

User

My daughter has had numerous visits to the hospital and the care has always been second to none. She’s recently been discharged from eczema clinic where the care provided by Nurse Katie Harris has meant that my daughter no longer suffers from flare ups or any issues with her skin. Nurse Katie Harris has an excellent manner with children and her knowledge and care has been outstanding from day one. I would personally like to thank her for all the help, advice and support she has given to aid me with treatment for my daughter Harper.

User

My daughter had to go in for a small operation yesterday (25/5/18). From the moment we arrived to when we left the care we both had was brilliant. All the staff on Ward 32 and her surgeon where so tentative and made the experience for my young daughter so relaxing. Plus the staff down in theatre went beyond their job to ensure she (and myself) was at ease before and after her surgery. What an amazing bunch you all are

User

Had a few heart problems recently and had a weeks stay at ward 1&2 until i finally had a pacemaker fitted. All i can say about the treatment i received is it was as good as you could get anywhere i was made to feel at ease , everything was explained to me the nurses and doctors were brilliant., even the food was good for a week.

I would like to thank all involved in my treatment for the way they looked after me and for the extra cups of tea when i couldnt sleep they were much appreciated.

Ended up having an unexpected overnight stay at the clinical assessment unit at Prince Charles Hospital the night of 7th March 2018 and the following day Still don't know the issue either a migraine or side effects of a new statin. I'm fine now and home.

But that's not the reason for this post.

I received amazing care from all the staff. They work in extreme and challenging conditions. I and many others stacked in corridors, yet the nursing staff expertly coped and organised all the beds, provided true care to all the patients. The Sister in charge could not apologise enough and was upset with the conditions. All the catering staff took care to sure everyone had plenty of tea and coffee and ensuring patients had food. The nursing staff amazed me, their management of a very difficult situation is brought together through teamwork, a smile and thank you. A big thank you to all the staff there. You are all amazing and should be proud.

User

Compliments to all of the midwives, staff and doctors in the maternity and labour ward at Prince charles hospital! I had my little girl nearly 3 weeks ago and although all labours are different, i was lucky to have a fantastic midwife through what was for me a difficult labour and afterwards all of the staff and doctors were fantastic looking after me as I was quite unwell after haemorrhaging. These people work extremely hard and are not given enough credit! After spending a few days in I saw the variance of the ward being quiet to full with ladies who were due to have their babies or just had their babies. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you for all that you did for me and my little one xx

User

Cant fault the staff in accident and emergency yesterday and today with the care we received for our little boy it was outstanding, but what I couldn't believe was that when I went to your courtyard restaurant at 11 am to get some toast for my little boy (who we brought back at 7am this morning) to get told that we have stopped serving food, I was only after one round of toast for him! I would never normally complain like this, but the worst part of it was there was a toaster out and about six loaves of bread behind her, I did explain that I was only after some toast for my son and was told no! Well done customer service at its best!

User

Can't not fault the staff on ward 31 after a recent stay with my son they were absolutely amazing nothing was too much trouble. The care they provided was outstanding and enabled my son to have a speedy recovery. Thank you all so much you do an amazing job.

Came a cropper at Bike Park Wales yesterday - over the bars, hit head and unable to use leg and in a lot of pain.

The paramedic and A&E team were fantastic. Chris, Luke Jeanette, Lauren, Nicola, Stuart, Nick, Shannon plus others who’s names I didn’t get were friendly, knowledgeable, caring and professional.

You could tell they enjoyed working together and were a true team

They were wonderful representatives of their professions.

They endure abusive language most days, physical abuse many days and pay abuse every day.

You have my respect and thanks for all you did for me yesterday

My offer of a free stay at our campsite is there whenever you want to take it up

A great hospital for breastfeeding mothers. My toddler and I had to stay 3 nights in March after being transferred from Lady Cilento, I was apprehensive at first about being moved from a children’s hospital but Prince Charles children’s ward exceeded my expectations. We were lucky to have the privacy of our own room and the nurse happily replaced the cot with a hospital bed so we could share it. The nurses and doctors were all not only supportive of breastfeeding my toddler but very knowledgeable which is surprisingly hard to find. The nurses encouraged me to feed as much as possible for comfort and antibodies to help her recover. Not a single nurse or doctor even remotely hinted at weaning or questioned my decision to nurse her. Although I found at Lady Cilento things were done highly efficiently I was happy we ended up in Prince Charles while she recovered and highly recommend taking your baby or toddler to this hospital.

I do feel Sian your dementia nurse at A&E deserves a extra bit of recognition for how amazing, enthusiastic and energetic she is towards patients with dementia, she is a credit to the hospital, and where as hospital visits are usually traumatic for those with dementia being out of they’re farmila suroundings, she made the whole visit very easy and comforting for my grandfather, I would never normally do messages like this, but she’s left such an impact on me, I had to.

Had my annual endocrine appointment today and the staff were great but I had to fight my way past a cloud of smokers inside and outside the gate some in nurses scrubs and when I challenged them asking "shouldn't you be setting an example to your patients?" the reply was "Nah!" I'm pretty disgusted to be honest and frankly I wouldn't want any of them looking after me or mine

My son was at the hospital yesterday to visit his grandad with his dad. My son somehow managed to catch his finger in a door and broke his finger. He told me he was screaming crying on the floor and not one person came to see if he was ok. Not a visitor or member of staff. I know the staff are busy enough but to walk past a 10 year old on the floor screaming crying is just cruel. This is mostly aimed at members of the public than the staff but it is still very disappointing. His dad came running when he heard him but several people just walked on by. Sign of times I guess but shame on those that ignored him!

Worst time of my life in ward 34! Came in last night with high blood pressure, swollen feet, headache, shaking because of my blood pressure being 130/100 the reading today was last check at 10.30am it was 123/78 and time before that was at 8.30am 121/89. No one seem to care the at I was in so much pain! My leg gave out in the ward and no help was offered. I am 36 weeks pregnant and I am disabled after I had epidural go wrong in labour in 2012. I have nerve damage to my right side. The pressure from being pregnant is hard. I’ve come home and again my headaches have got worse, swelling to my feet has got worse and blurred vision, but yet I get fobbed off my labour ward. I will not be going back to this hospital ever again!

I Had really bad experience in this hospital when I gave birth for my baby and till now can't forget.

I arrived in the hospital on 18/02/2018 at 6pm as I had contractions every 2-3minutes and it last for 40-45seconds and the midwife check me and told me to go home as I was open just 3cm but me and my husband refuse to go home. We asked can we stay in hospital but midwife told us that it's no space and I can give birth just after 2-3 days as is my first baby. As we refuse to go home she gave as a room which doesnt work and we can stay for couple hours. After 30 min my waters broke and I say for midwife and she told me she is not sure if I pee or my water broke. After my water broke I start to have contractions more and more often , it came another midwife as shifts change. I start having contractions more and more often till I couldn't stand I was really bad and midwife told me she can't check me as it doesn't pass 4hours from my first check, as hospital policy is to check every 4 hours not more often. I started scream from pain and midwife check me couple minutes before it pass 4 hours and I was open 8cm and she told me we need to go to labour I almost couldn't walk my husband had undress me as I was with jeans. I think if not my husband I could die and no one care about it. I gave birth at 10.45pm.
