My favourite place and people in the world outside of my family. Fantastically run gym, PT’s and classes, what more could you ask for!

User

Love this place!! i enjoy most of the classes, the staff are really friendly & helpful.. My 2nd home!

User

Just wanted to add a comment about how great the instructors/ PTs have been in helping me in classes with an injury.

Especially Nat and Chris!!

Thanks both...!

It's a gym, it's very clean, loads of gear, friendly atmosphere, good changing facilities, hot showers. .... the one lyrics downside is the music from the two class areas is a bit loud...... but then I'm 46 so who cares about me?

I've been a member for nearly a year at Cardiff Gate. I've always felt a bit intimidated by the gym setting but Cardiff Gate PureGym puts that all at ease. The trainers are great and supportive. There is a good variety of classes and range of facilities. The 24/7 access is great for working around my shifts. Would highly recommend especially for the competitive price and rates to go. Value for money

User

Excellent gym, plenty of equipment to choose from and friendly 'non intimidating' atmosphere. Wide variety of classes available throughout the week. Good showering / changing facilities with plenty of locker space.

User

Excellent gym plenty of equipment to choose from too although a further machine for calf muscles would be great. It gets extremely busy but not if you schedule your times correctly. The only downside as most would agree is the music. It goes from inspirational/motivational to some strange fudge I've never heard of? I always listen my own to get me in the zone so it doesn't get to me.

User

Clean and nice gym plenty to choose from , however I feel the personal trainers could be around more to be helpful as I don't see them about

User

Brilliant spin class this evening with Matthew. Every time he pushes you just that little bit further, and he's there with you. Never asking you to do anything that he's not doing with you. Every increase, bit of pain and every ounce of sweat, he's feeling it too

User

Been to quite a lot of gyms in my time and it's the biggest and best, with everything you need. Trained at peak times as well and had no real issues with overcrowding. Great pricing as well.

User

Been on and off most of the time coming here trying to fit it in with my work hours changed my start time finish time in my work. now just find it way more convenient for me get access to everything I need on a day to day basis staff are very friendly

User

Been coming here for over a year now great gym. Good size and friendly staff

User

Always spotless. Friendly approachable staff. Open 24/7

User

Great place, lots to do... just too tired at moment to try all... but plenty of time for work outs

User

Great gym, great price!!!

Only things I wish would change....

1. No yoga/chilled out classes booked during 5/7pm....relaxing music doesn't help when lifting weights!!!

2. Paper towels/tissues would be so handy

3. Something needs to be done about the state of the free weights rack, nobody puts any weights in the correct locations and it's like a treasure hunt trying to find the Dumbbells you need

A good gym is a tidy gym

Gym itself is good. However a certain PT has now left me in a state where I’ve had 2 lots of injections and now needing a fusion on my SI joints. This is after numerous PT sessions. I told him from the start about previous back problems and surgeries. He chose to ignore this and had me doing exercises that were not fit for purpose. Stupidly I put my trust in him. Even the gym manager confirmed there was no way he should’ve have me doing the things he was. Some of the PT’s are really good. Others are there just to build and bulk up, regardless of the consequences.

I’ve been a member of PureGym Cardiff Gate for nearly two years but it’s safe to say I won’t be renewing my annual membership next month! Reasons being...

- The ladies showers are dirty, hair everywhere and they absolutely stink of drains.

- The changing rooms are chaos in the mornings, often having to wait for a dressing table sort of station to become available to do hair/make-up = late for work!

- The male PT’s conveniently seem to do “changing room spot checks” or have to tend to a problem shower at peak times when ladies are changing or still in their towels!

- The classes are always fully booked and usually have a full waiting list too. If you don’t book 7 days in advance, you’ve got no chance of getting on.

- High PT turnover. More recently there are PT’s that have absolutely NO idea what they’re doing and have been let loose on classes. I nearly walked out of one a few months ago as it was terrible - that’s the last time I’ve attended a class. I’m no PT but I have trained at gyms for nearly 10 years and felt embarrassed by what I was seeing.

- Good range of equipment but if you go to the gym between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on weekdays, be prepared to wait to use everything.

- Weights in the free weight area are usually all over the floor and when they are put back they’re stacked dangerously and in the wrong place.

- Could do with a 1kg-10kg free weight stand in the main free weight area... sooo many ladies carting these weights back and fore!

- No cleaning equipment provided. I’d recommend taking a towel to avoid touching sweaty seats etc.!

- General atmosphere is ok but still uncomfortable being looked at like a piece of meat by some men (sadly I think you get this everywhere)
