My name is Jeanie and I am a registered childminder based in Bedwas.

My name is Jeanie, I am a registered child-minder. As a registered child-minder, I provide a service that allows girls and boys to learn, play and develop in a safe secure home based environment. Play will at the centre of the child’s learning and development.


My family consists of my husband, our six children and myself. We have three boys and three girls aged; 16, 15, 14, 7, 7 and 5.


Our house is situated in a quiet street in Bedwas, with ample parking for parents. Children in my setting will be able to utilise the downstairs of our home. This consists of a hall area, lounge, dining room, conservatory /playroom, kitchen, downstairs toilet /wash facilities and utility room.


We have a large enclosed garden with a play area consisting of a trampoline, two swings, two wendy houses and two slides. The ground of the play area is safety protected with rubber chippings. There is also a lawn area. It is a 1-minute walk to the local Park and recreation ground and 15-minute walk to the local Bedwas schools. I am also able to travel to other schools in the local areas if needed.


We have a large variety of age and development suitable toys, materials and objects available for play across a wide range and activities based on the children’s interests and needs. A weekly planner is used to build play around, based on the 6 areas of EYFS learning and development (Personal, social and emotional development; Communication, Language and literacy; Problem solving, Reasoning and numeracy; Knowledge and understanding of the world; Physical development; creative development) to encourage a diverse range of learning. I arrange a balance of adult-led and child initiated activities such as;

counting, time telling, play shop, gardening, cooking, craft, story /reading time, art and crafts, brick building.


I value linguistic diversity and aim to provide opportunities for children to develop and use their home language in their play and learning. Alongside support in the child’s home language, I provide a range of meaningful activities in which children have opportunities to develop English and Welsh.

I visit the local playgroups in Machen, Trethomas and Bedwas, Bedwas music group and Machen library on a weekly basis. I also visit Machen Welsh toddler group.


I take part in other activities such as nature walks as there are many beautiful walks in the local area.


My service is open to all children and families. I have 16 years’ personal experience raising my own children.


Children with additional needs are welcome in my setting. I will respect the privacy of the child if intimate care is necessary. I will adapt the child planning activities to take into account of his /her development and level of understanding. I will work to individual plans if requested. I will involve parents at each stage by maintaining good communication and reviewing practice and contracts.


I have admissions policy and welcome visits any time during the day just contact prior to arrival. I encourage several pre-visits for you and your child so that we can chat informally and identify your child’s specific needs, preferences and abilities. I like to work in close partnership with parents to meet the individual needs for each child in my care, and will adapt and negotiate each contract so it meets the needs for parents and children.


I work between 7. 30am and 6. 30pm Monday to Friday, with weekends negotiable throughout the year. I am open on school inset days and all public bank holidays. I operate a simple registration system where parents are asked to complete an assessment form, child record form and contract for their child as well as numerous consent forms for taking photographs, observations, emergency medical treatment and arrangements, applying sunscreen, using outside play equipment, transporting children in vehicles, pre-arranged alternative care, and participation in routine outings. Parents are also given copies of all my policies and procedures.


I have a clean driving licence and a 9-seater People carrier with ample car seats to suit all stages of development.


I am registered to care for 3 children under the age of 8yrs.
