50 years ago saw start of the Stonewall Riots, the start of a fight back against homophobia, transphobia and police oppression of the LGBT+ community, triggered by a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York.
It is generally believed to be first instance of direct action for LGBT+ equality anywhere in the world and to have kick started the Pride movement in the USA and worldwide.
