About Reuseit

ReUseIt is East Renfrewshire's only independent furniture re-use charity project

Reuseit Description

ReUseIt is a local charity, created with the aim of improving the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. We do this by collecting unwanted, good quality items and selling them at reduced prices in our warehouse. We also offer a free pick up service for larger items.

In our massive warehouse you can grab some incredible bargains on not only furniture, but white goods, small electrical items, adult and children's clothing, books, bric-a-brac. . and the list goes on.

Call us on 07733 446341 for more information.

Managed to get our great wee van sold towards the end of last year. Another furniture re-use project bought it, so it's gone to a good home. Sadly, there are no feasible plans for ReUseIt to start up again, so it's good night Vienna, for that great wee project that punched well above its weight. The FB page will still be monitored occasionally, but ultimately, will be shut down when all remaining paperwork has been completed. Good luck to all you enviro-bunnies out there. Keep on saving the planet!!! :-)

We're almost there. Huge thanks to the team (Ali, John, Vincent, Derek, Fiona) for their help in clearing the warehouse over the last couple of days. There were those who doubted we could do it (!) Thanks also to other re-use projects, Ramh's LifeSkills in Johnstone and Starter Packs in Govan for taking items left over from our sale....

Huge thanks to everyone who responded to our recent post. It's been amazing to read all the positive comments. And yes, we're gutted too, but hopeful we'll be able to come back much stronger. In the meantime, don't forget .....

ReUseIt would like to inform all its customers and supporters that it will be closing its doors next month. Financial pressures mean that ReUseIt can no longer afford to stay in its current premises, so while other alternatives are investigated, and new premises sought, the project will cease to trade next month in the hope that ReUseIt can be resurrected, in a new format, in the very near future.
ReUseIt would like to thank everyone who has donated items, bought items and g...enerally been involved in supporting the project. We couldn’t have done it without you. Nor could we have done it without the committed team of staff members and volunteers who have given such dedication and commitment to the project over the years. They really are a super special bunch of folk!
We’ve achieved a lot over our seven years’ trading from our Muriel Street warehouse: • Taken in more than 643 tonnes of items (furniture, white goods, small electricals, clothing, books, bric-a-brac, etc) and diverted more than 510 tonnes of that from landfill through sales and recycling. This equates to a landfill diversion rate of 79%. • Been shortlisted for Community Project of the Year at The Herald Society Awards in 2013, and won Social Enterprise of the Year at East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce's Business Awards in 2015; • Employed, on average, a team of 4.5 staff, who in later years were all paid a Living Wage; • Enjoyed and benefitted from the support of around 10 regular volunteers.
And all the above undertaken with only minimal amounts of start-up funding in 2010 and modest external, but not core, funding over the following five years.
It has always been very much a hand-to-mouth existence – but ReUseIt managed to survive for seven years, hoping that having worked so hard towards self-sustainability, funders would be willing to consider funding applications favourably when a little help was needed. The sum of £10k would have secured the project, including its 4.5 staff posts, for one more year and allowed the board of trustees to investigate future options such as finding new premises and/or working together and even merging with other like-minded environmental organisations. Sadly, despite ReUseIt’s attempts to access such financial assistance nobody was willing to support us. So it’s goodbye from us, for now. ReUseIt has thoroughly enjoyed providing affordable, high-quality, second-hand furniture to the community in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire and beyond, and looks forward, hopefully, to doing so again.
