About Rhyl Little Theatre 50Th Year Celebrations

The first purpose built Theatre for children in the UK.

Rhyl Little Theatre 50Th Year Celebrations Description

It was founded by actor Joseph Holroyd who was a member of the Manchester Repertory Company. After being evacuated to Rhyl's Pavilion Theatre during the war years Joe stayed on in the town and continued with the Children's Club. The town responded well and many children took part in various shows in the town. iIn the 5o's the old school / clinic on Vale Road was closed and after much campaigning the Rhyl Little Theatre was built and opened May 18th 1963. Many children and adults have taken part in hundreds of productions over the years. Plays, Pantomimes, Musicals, Variety Shows, Band Nights, and one night attractions.

Dear friends. The Little Theatre has at long last got a 25 year lease from Denbighshire council. This means that we can get all the essential work such as heating and new toilets and renovations now done. The theatre is becoming more and more busy. Many local groups are using it for their performances. The theatre has always been run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give a lot of time to the running of it. As we are now moving forward we are looking for other volunteers to help out. We desperately need people who are interested in the technical side. Lighting, stage work, set building and painting. If there is anyone who will be interested in joining us please pm me or just come along tonight at 7pm.

Forthcoming Production 8th and 9th December 'AN ELF JOB'
This week at the Rhyl Little Theatre. The Rhyl Children's Theatre Club is presenting their Christmas production of "It's An Elf Job". Written in part by the children themselves, and largely by children's theatre club director Arlena Thornton, it tells a story of a crisis at Santa's workshop.

Will the Elves cope? Will Three homeless children find happiness? Will Santa change his mind and save Christmas?
A funny and thoughtful production which highlights some of the moral concerns of young people today.A family show which will delight all ages. The show can be seen on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th of December at 7.30 pm Adults £7.00 Concessions £5.00
