Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

About Royal Porthcawl Golf Club

Founded in 1891, Royal Porthcawl is one of the most adored and historic clubs in the world. Our revered Links were originally designed by Ramsay Hunter, a Scottish greenkeeper who had earlier laid out Royal St Georges. Inspired by old aerial photography in the Changing Room, today's architect, Martin Ebert, has beautifully reinstated Hunter's naturalised bunkering. The Club is steeped in tradition which forms a huge part of this lasting experience. Once the workmens' quarters in Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Exhibition in Crystal Palace London, our quaint clubhouse has a timeless feel. The Course has played host to a plethora of Amateur and Professional tournaments over the years. In 1995 journalists claimed a young Tiger was tamed on the Links in a thrilling, star studded Walker Cup. No less than 7 Amateur Championships have been staged here featuring countless modern day icons. The Senior Open Championship was contested over the Links in 2014 and 2017. Sky commentary opened coverage with "Welcome to paradise" - we couldn't sum it up better ourselves. In 2025, the Club is privileged to play host to the AIG Women's Open.
