Ruthin School is one of the oldest public schools in the United Kingdom. Located on the outskirts of Ruthin, the county town of Denbighshire in North Wales, the school is over seven hundred years old and has been co-educational since 1990. Steady improvement has continued throughout Toby Belfield's tenure, with 2016's A*-A grades making up 76% of all A Level grades attained, as well as a pass rate of 100% . The school places emphasis on placing its students into reputable universities, notably sending a significant proportion of the year to Oxbridge every year. 90% of 2017 university applications at Ruthin School were to Russell Group or Top 20 universities. Ruthin School now features prominently as Britain's fourth best coeducational boarding school in terms of A Level results. Ruthin School utilises its academic talent in national competitions, especially successfully in mathematics, where the school won the 2016 and 2017 UKMT national mathematics competitions, resulting in their selection to represent the United Kingdom in Europe for consecutive years. The school won the national Chemistry Analyst Competition in 2015, and regularly fields gold award winners in Olympiads for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
