Introduction to Navigation course 6th - 7th October in Snowdonia. As the nights start to draw in and we leave summer behind, knowing now to navigate in the hills and mountains becomes a key skill. This course will take you through all the important techniques you need, leaving you more competent and confident off the beaten track. Super qualified, experienced and super friendly instruction. http://leadingedge-mountain.co.uk/navigat ion.html or info@leadingedge-mountain.co.uk for more details.

I could watch this all day😃

User

Chris revelling in the peace and tranquillity of climbing on the Llangollen escarpment. Great venue for this time of year and the newer Clwyd Rock Fax is great. Suspect wall is pretty polished but if you can be bothered to walk the 2mins further along the rock is rough and the routes are good if sometimes with spaced bolts. @jaggedglobe Association of Mountaineering Instructors

Chris styling his way up an airy slate arête, enjoying the crisp autumn conditions in snowdonia. @jaggedglobe Association of Mountaineering Instructors Snowdonia National Park

Top effort Mick!

Chris styling his way up the superbly named Long Legged Lizard from Liverpool. This excellent wee route requires really thoughtful climbing and delicate shifts of balance and weight. Chris did a grand job of tip toeing his way up it. We watched the rain part around us multiple times at Llangollen yesterday, stayed dry all day. 😎 @jaggedglobe Association of Mountaineering Instructors

Ran a Boost your Confidence workshop for Mountain Training Association on Saturday. We stayed dry out at Holyhead Mountain but it was a tad windy at the top. Along with everyone else Mags really took on board the coaching, all the ‘system testing’ earlier in the day paid off. Here she is discovering that climbing hard on windy, exposed routes can be exhilarating and fun rather than scary and unpleasant. This is so true! How can trying be wrong? In the very process of succeeding you will not get it right a time or two or even a thousand. The only failure is not trying.

User

On the grit, showing great grit and determination. Constella fought with everything and used just about every part of her body (sure we saw a ear jam at one point). But the reaction when she knew she had done it was priceless. An truly inspiring effort on the Mountain Inspired Women’s Weekend in the Peak District. Not planned anything yet? How about a fun filled three days packed full of learning and confidence boosting coaching too? 😃

User

Still a space if you would like to enjoy three great days on fab Welsh rock. 😃

Naomi trying incredibly hard to manage her ‘head game’. Having been hurt by a fall a while ago getting back on the sharp end has been hard. Endless patience from Laura belaying allowed her to deal (so bravely) with some big demons and realise she can do it and best of all enjoy it😃. The most amazing mountain guide. Truly inspirational with a fantastic ability to motivate / inspire and empower anyone she works with. Enthusiastic with seemingly limitless energy.

Clear from the first time I met her that this enthusiasm is borne from genuine enjoyment in helping others to experience the things she loves doing - it is very clearly not because she is 'paid to be enthusiastic'....

Client led - clearly an exceptionally talented climber & more, but it takes great skill to be able to impart knowledge to those with 'a little less ability!' - Sam has this skill in abundance.

Whether you want to take it easy, to your limit, beyond your own perceived limitations or any combination - Sam will happily oblige and you will have a great time whatever you choose.

Empowers you to make your own decisions. Incredible local knowledge will allow you to get the very best out of any time available. An incredible knowledge of the outdoors full stop......

Great conversation - always interesting.... and interested!

Attention to detail is ever present & no matter how much I wanted to push myself - safety was always the highest priority - followed almost immediately by making everything fun, no matter how much rain is falling or how cold it gets.

What more can I say - other than I have now had 15 or 16 days, loved every minute, and have learnt more than I could have imagined. If that wasn't enough she has taken my wife climbing - who was (is) afraid of heights - and she returned for more too!!

Hoping not too many people will read this, otherwise Sam will never be available for a booking!

User

Thanks a lot for the truly inspiring lecture at UCL yesterday - it was much more than I had hoped for. Keen to get out there now!

User

She is such a great teacher so enthusiastic

User

Sam was absolutely the best Mountain Guide I could have hoped for. I was with Sam for two days on a winter skills course to try and convert my summer climbing skills into winter mountaineering. She was endlessly patient at explaining everything and kept the training fun and practical. I always felt safe with Sam and, even more, I felt she gave me the skills necessary to keep myself safe. Best of all, she was always managed to make me smile, through hot aches to top outs. An incredible teacher that I couldn’t recommend more. Needless to say, I can’t wait to get back out on the mountain!

User

Sam is the consummate professional- hugely experienced, interesting, articulate, constructive and unfailingly good-humoured. Her Winter Mountain Leader training which I attended was by some way the best course I have been on.

User

Sam is one of the most enthusiastic instructors I've ever had! Supremely knowledgeable and really good at teaching and coaching; I learnt absolutely loads and climbed a harder climb than I ever thought I could. Brilliant! :-D

User

Sam is inspiring, encouraging, full of energy and enthusiasm - not only for her job but to see her clients succeed and improve. A fantastic instructor to spend a few days with whether it's your first or 1,000th adventure into the great outdoors.

User

Me and my sister had a weekend climbing with Sam, I was a complete novice and had never climbed outside whereas my sister was pretty experienced. Although we had the typical Welsh weather Sam's enthusiasm and passion kept us smiling the whole weekend! I was pretty worried I wouldn't be able to do a lot of the climbing, but Sam is an amazing teacher and was so encouraging my confidence really grew, and after just two days me and my sister can now go multi pitch climbing together! Thank you Sam for such an amazing weekend full of laughs and for saving my life a few times! I'd recommend to anyone and will definitely do this again! :)

User

I used Sam for a day of navigation revision and she was absolutely brilliant! She spent time making sure she understood what I wanted to achieve and was so friendly I immediately felt at ease going out on the Hill with her. She is genuinely passionate about the work she does and even gave up an evening to do more night navigation with me after we ran out of time on the first day. Her ongoing email support has also been really appreciated. In my opinion a SUPERB mountaineering instructor

User

I just spent a superb weekend in North Wales with Sam, working on improving my trad leading skills. It wasn't an easy brief, with me saying "I just want to be better at this, and know that I know what I'm doing" but she absolutely managed to fulfill it. After two days with her I feel both more confident and more competent and can't wait to get out on the rock next weekend and, as she says, "strut my stuff on the sharp end"!

Sam has a lovely individual approach to people she works with, assessing their needs very quickly and tailoring the days accordingly. She is impressively knowledgeable and competent, making you feel completely safe in her hands even though you are realistically in an unsafe environment. This she regularly points out, all the while teaching you how to assess your situation and make good decisions to stay as safe as possible. Ultimately the result is that knowing you have done everything you can, you accept the risk involved and have no space for fear of the unknown because nothing is unknown any more. Oh, and she is also super friendly, kind, funny and all around amazing woman and role model.

TL,DR: Sam is brilliant, book on a course with her! I certainly will be again.

User

Engaging, funny instructor with a vast store of experience and knowledge.

User

As a bit of insider information, I've worked as an instructor with Sam many times over the past ten years, and she is far and away one of the best instructors in North Wales - and there are a lot of very good instructors around here!

User

Absolutely top notch professional. Many thanks and hope we meet again.

User

Absolutely brilliant few days with Sam and Kath doing the new Rock Climbing Instructor training. Learnt so much from the two of them (and I'm still trying to think of a rescue situation indoors which would get you off the floor Sam!)
