con man lists furniture on eBay only wants card payment...

I called into offer a teak dining room suite from my mother's house which was like new, only to be told they don't accept teak because "it doesn't sell very well". I was under the impression that the furniture donated was for people who were in need?
Perhaps my definition of 'people in need' is not the same as their definition?
