Shore & Seamist

About Shore & Seamist

Seaglass, pebble and driftwood art, along with upcycled and repurposed vintage jewellery.

Shore & Seamist Description

I have always had 'busy hands' and always like making and creating. I've recently started creating artwork using pebbles, seaglass and driftwood. This is gathered from beaches all over Northern Ireland, and also from North-West England (where my sister lives, so I can bring her along to collect more seaglass! ), and the west coast of Scotland. I began making pictures of pebble people-very simple, but these little pebbles can be very expressive, simply with the tilt of a pebble or a raise of an arm, one can imbue them with personality and meaning, and I've become very fond of them all.

I also like to collect old jewellery. Pebbles and driftwood are beautiful in their own right, but sometimes a girl just wants something sparkly. I collect vintage and costume jewellery from all over-auctions, house clearances, charity shops-and then make this into artwork. Some of the pieces I've used go back to the 1940s and 1950s-the women who wore the jewellery then must have loved it and looked after it, and I like to think that they would approve of their jewellery still being used and looking beautiful all these years later.
