Simon Winter Stone Carving Sculptor

I have been a sculptor /carver for over 30 years and have always loved the durability and heaviness of stone. The marvel is, that stone can be made not only to be highly decorative but to reveal our innermost feelings and aspirations.

For some forty years I have been providing stone carvings, lettering and sculpture to architects, stone masonry firms, councils and private individuals.

Having long experience in following projects from planning through production to ultimately fixing in situ I can provide early sketches, detailed drawings and Maquette’s of proposed ideas.

I am well used to many different materials and have produced work in sandstone, limestone, slate, marble and granite as well as carving in wood and modelling in clay.

I have experience of many different areas of stone carving; from large architectural projects such as capitals for Oxford Colleges, finials for St. Mary’s Nantwich and over life-size statues for Lord McAlpine and Sainsbury’s in Wrexham to intricately carved portraits of people and animals.

Although Conservation of old stonework is essential for our Heritage, new ideas are most important too. To this end I produce my own modern style sculptures which can be placed indoors or outside in a garden setting.

I have produced a large sculpture of an Angel for St Brigid’s School in Denbigh, N. Wales. While producing the statue I worked in the school itself and was very happy to have the student’s interest, enthusiasm and suggestions during its creation. Recently I have had commissions for several Headstones, a water feature for a Jesuit Retreat Centre and a Armorial Plaque for Ruthin School, Denbighshire I hope to produce more of my own ideas in sculpture in the future.
