Sinfonia Newydd

About Sinfonia Newydd

Sinfonia Newydd (stylised as SN) is a contemporary music performance and promotion platform founded in February 2010 by music student and creative /cultural entrepreneur Toks Dada. In just three years, SN has provided over 30 young, emerging composers in Wales and Bristol with invaluable performance and promotion platforms for themselves and their work. Over 100 works have been showcased through a series of festivals, large-scale ensemble concerts and chamber music events, whilst a growing collective of young emerging performers have been given performance opportunities. This community of young people presenting the work of fellow young musicians not only supports but also hugely energises the company's work. Events have been staged in professional venues such as the Dora Stoutzker Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), the National Museum Wales and Wales Millennium Centre. Performance highlights include cross-art collaborative projects with international biennial contemporary visual arts initiative Artes Mundi and the National Museum Wales, as well as the engagement of professional musicians as soloists, including Rosie Biss (Principal Cello, Welsh National Opera), Colin Scobie (Violin, Fitzwilliam String Quartet) and Niamh Ferris (Viola, Mavron Quartet). As a modern day initiative, this professional performance provision is supported by a number of innovative, digital media initiatives that increase exposure for young emerging composers and help to develop audiences.
