Sos Athletic Excellence Description

SOS Athletic Excellence is a Gym limited to just 100 members. We focus 100% on looking after these members with individual programming, goal setting, support and nutrition advice.

SOS Athletic Excellence is the home of 10 highly qualified Personal Trainers. We take pride in the fact that all of our trainers are either Level 4 qualified or are committed to reaching this level within 12 months. We only want highly driven, motivated and highly educated staff in our facility.

Our Personal Trainers are all self employed, but have all bought into the SOS culture of a fantastic level of customer service, attention to detail and support. We are not focused on high numbers of members, we are focused on quality and results.

There will be Group sessions as part of the membership each morning at 9. 15 am and also 5. 30 pm. These will include:
- TRX
- Metabolic Mayhem
- Core Meltdown
- Bodyweight Blitz
- Rowing Club

The Personal Trainers run their own Group Training sessions in the facility. These sessions will be paid sessions and include:
- Bootcamps
- Group TRX Training
- Mobility Workshops
- Football Fit
- Rowing Club
- Running Club
- Female Functional Fitness
- Modified Stongman Training

We are open from 6. 30 am - 9 pm on week days and 8 - 12 pm on weekends.

*** Time Under Tension ***
Manipulating time under tension while resistance training is all the rage lately
A number of new research studies provide evidence that varying tempo is one of your best tools for achieving greater strength, size, and athletic performance
... As you will see in the video we prescribe Tempo within our small group sessions
Programming the tempo of each lift is not just for the elite athlete or accomplished bodybuilder
It can be used safely by the novice trainee, the deconditioned individual, or someone recovering from an injury
If you’re not already manipulating time under tension for your workouts, you could be missing out on lots of gains
At SOS we use Tempo to Get Better Results and Not to Leave Our Clients Success to Chance
We Program the tempo of our lifts in order to get better results
Haphazardly changing the time you spend on each phase of a lift is not ideal, nor is using a self-selected speed that is random
This would be like erratically throwing plates on the bar to squat and then doing some squats to parallel and others only a quarter of the way down - you might as well not even train at all!
Prescribing tempo means you choose how long you will spend on the concentric and eccentric phases of the lift
You can also include a pause at the top or bottom of a lift
Programming the amount of time your muscles spend under tension is just as important as programming reps, sets, and loads in our opinion

[What’s the Best Tricep Assistance Exercise?]
A good exercise to target the triceps would be the California Press.
The California Press is a hybrid movement.
... In fact it is best described as a cross between a Close-Grip Bench Press and a Lying Triceps Extension.
The California Press is a very popular assistance movement among powerlifters.
How Do You Perform This Exercise?
Here is an explanation from the Strength Sensei website:
Assume the same starting position as for a Close-Grip Bench Press.
Then lower the barbell to your upper chest by bringing your elbows down and forward as you lower the bar.
As you complete the range of motion, you will experience a great stretch in your triceps, this is a key component to the effectiveness of the exercise.
In the bottom position, your forearms should be in contact with your biceps, and the bar should be in contact with your upper chest.
Finally, from this position, reverse the movement, pushing the bar upward from your chest. Extend your elbows to just short of lock-out in order to maintain tension on your triceps.

A good sensible starting weight would be somewhere halfway between what you use in the lying triceps extensions and the close grip bench press.

*** We Do Things Differently ***
At SOS Athletic Excellence we do things a little differently to the rest of the industry.
One of the primary reasons we believe that someone should hire a Personal Trainer is so they they are EDUCATED and LEARN.
... At SOS we place a HUGE importance on education with all of our clients in regards to Training, Nutrition, Lifestyle and Habit Forming.
Education when training is essential not just in terms of reducing the risk of injury but also making long term and sustainable progress and most of the industry are up to speed with this.
However it's on the topics of lifestyle and nutrition that most clients that join us needs the greatest amount of help and assistance.
So it's these areas where we spend a huge proportion of our time with our clients.
This may slow down initial progress - but we would rather take 16 weeks to take someone from 20% body fat to sub 10% and TEACH them along the way.
Coincidentally progress actually speeds up as they get greater understanding and knowledge of the key areas we help them gain improved knowledge and confidence.
Having clients get into incredible shape and also learn how and why they have got into that shape is KEY.
After all this will give them the tools they need to sustain that shape long term.
Anyone can prescribe a low calorie diet plan.
But as Dr Sandra Aamodt says in her book 'Why Diets Make Us Fat'; "If diets worked, we'd all be thin by now".
What's more important for trainers and coaches if they really want to help their clients to succeed is spending time teaching and educating them about vital areas of importance such as; energy balance, hydration, the importance of whole foods, protein, hydration, rest, recovery, sleep, movement and happiness.
This may at times mean following a low calorie plan, but teaching clients how to do this is where our Coaches earn their money.
Teaching a client how to make improved food choices, while fitting it around their busy lifestyle and preferred food choices is all part of the coaching process where we have become experts.

So after baby number 4 I felt quite down at how my body looked. One fad diet after another threw me into depression, which I've been fighting for a number of years. I use exercise to keep me off medication. I didn't eat that much so I didn't understand why I wasn't more trim.

I was a member of another gym but making no progress and their classes left me fatigued and irritated, unable to keep up my working mum lifestyle, I work in retail which is extremely demanding.

An emotional wreck Sam invited me in for a bootcamp session...... I loved it!

Bex took me under her wing and explained where I was going wrong diet wise. Things like vitamin C boosters and how important rest and sleep is. Which before I never gave a second thought.

Signed up for their 28 day bootcamp. I was hooked. They hold seminars about health and weight so they teach you how to feed your body. I've never met such a ferociously dedicated crew. All of Sos members of all different ability levels made me feel welcome.



Now through new knowledge and correct exercise I've never felt better. I'm getting results and able to keep up with my hectic lifestyle. And the weight is staying off!

Sam has been doing individual sessions with my Son getting him ready for Pre-Season training with Bristol Rovers FC.. Over the years we have had contact with lots of fitness instructor's but none of them have come close to the experience he's having with SOS.. Joining SOS was one of the best and hardest decisions I have made. I have tried every diet going and never stuck to them, even tried "horny goat weed" yep that didn't work either.



I can't begin to thank the team at SOS, I started my journey on the 4 July on the 28 day plan, by the end of that 28 days I was hooked, I signed up for 1 year of bootcamps.



As of today I have lost 17kg (37lb) dropped 3 dress sizes and I'm the fittest and healthiest I've ever been. I've built muscle and eat around 1700 cals a day, you don't have to starve yourself to get results. Real food, real results.



For those sat at home thinking, shall I - do it, you won't regret it - I haven't!

I started on the sos 21 day fat loss challenge 2 weeks ago and so far have lost 5 lbs and 10 1/2 inches from my belly still one week to go and loving it I have so much energy now and don't crave sugar the support I have had from Sam has been amazin and from all the other ladies in the group.



Update after 21 days plan I lost 10 lb and 13 1/2 inches from my belly in total

I initially signed up for a 3 month unlimited sweat on sweat deal after being convinced to do so by a friend.. as it turns out she hasn't been able to attend very often through injury but I decided that as I had paid, I would keep attending by myself.



This is quite a big thing for me as I am quite shy and was anxious about looking an idiot. I have a lot of work to do to get where I want to be and I was worried that I wouldn't be physically able to do things due to a previous back injury and that I wouldn't be able to keep up with others in the class...



I am SO happy that I decided to keep coming... the classes are the hardest classes I have ever done.. but I love it! I feel amazing after and even after a few weeks I think I am getting stronger...

before, I was only getting a few hours sleep a night as I couldn't lie flat or even roll over in bed without it causing so much pain in my back... over the last few days I have managed a full nights sleep without waking up in agony once!



The trainers I have met have been amazing! So encouraging and happy to help, they always check I'm ok with an exercise whilst performing it as they know about my back issue and it's never a problem for them to adjust something for me to suit my ability.



I can honestly say these sessions have made me fall in love with exercise again and for that I can't thank you all enough.

I have been a member of SOS for 18 months. In that time it developed into a fantastic place to train. All the trainers are friendly and keen to help. It's certainly not an intimidating gym, all shapes and sizes are training there all with different fitness levels.Within a few weeks all the trainers will know your name and you will feel like part of a big family.

I was enjoying the bootcamps but felt I had stagnated so took up personal training with Geoff Wiseman. He is a very dedicated trainer who knew what I wanted to achieve and put me through my paces. Thanks to Geoff I had the confidence to move to the body composition classes. I am now entering my fourth week and am loving it. The programmes are carefully structured to achieve maximum results and there is fantastic support throughout the hour training.

I have been a member for just two months and already seeing results and feeling a lot more positive about food now and making better choices (not feeling hungry just eating more protein regular , the gym is so friendly and everyone is always eager to help if you need it , Geoff wiseman has helped me alot so knowledgable and always makes time to help, which is quite rare in a gym ! and because of that I am building the confidence I was lacking slowly but surely.

First boot camp today and I was very impressed. Have not liked gyms in the past, but this feels very different. Very friendly and supportive pt's and that goes for the other members also. Fab smoothie over at SOS Kitchen just across the way, no food though as am on the 28 Day plan. You should ask about this. Great value and fab for those who may be nervous about getting back in a gym environment. If you have questions, don't feel afraid to ask. The pt's don't bite. At least I don't think so! So, what are you waiting for? :) What have you got to lose, except lbs and excess body fat? And everything to gain such as confidence, muscles, stamina and lots of new friends.

So after baby number 4 I felt quite down at how my body looked. One fad diet after another threw me into depression, which I've been fighting for a number of years. I use exercise to keep me off medication. I didn't eat that much so I didn't understand why I wasn't more trim.

I was a member of another gym but making no progress and their classes left me fatigued and irritated, unable to keep up my working mum lifestyle, I work in retail which is extremely demanding.

An emotional wreck Sam invited me in for a bootcamp session...... I loved it!

Bex took me under her wing and explained where I was going wrong diet wise. Things like vitamin C boosters and how important rest and sleep is. Which before I never gave a second thought.

Signed up for their 28 day bootcamp. I was hooked. They hold seminars about health and weight so they teach you how to feed your body. I've never met such a ferociously dedicated crew. All of Sos members of all different ability levels made me feel welcome.



Now through new knowledge and correct exercise I've never felt better. I'm getting results and able to keep up with my hectic lifestyle. And the weight is staying off!

I'd recommend EVERYBODY to come to this gym. EPIC!

Sam has been doing individual sessions with my Son getting him ready for Pre-Season training with Bristol Rovers FC.. Over the years we have had contact with lots of fitness instructor's but none of them have come close to the experience he's having with SOS.. Highly recommended, as this guy really knows his trade..���

Joining SOS was one of the best and hardest decisions I have made. I have tried every diet going and never stuck to them, even tried "horny goat weed" yep that didn't work either.



I can't begin to thank the team at SOS, I started my journey on the 4 July on the 28 day plan, by the end of that 28 days I was hooked, I signed up for 1 year of bootcamps.



As of today I have lost 17kg (37lb) dropped 3 dress sizes and I'm the fittest and healthiest I've ever been. I've built muscle and eat around 1700 cals a day, you don't have to starve yourself to get results. Real food, real results.



For those sat at home thinking, shall I - do it, you won't regret it - I haven't!

I started on the sos 21 day fat loss challenge 2 weeks ago and so far have lost 5 lbs and 10 1/2 inches from my belly still one week to go and loving it I have so much energy now and don't crave sugar the support I have had from Sam has been amazin and from all the other ladies in the group.



Update after 21 days plan I lost 10 lb and 13 1/2 inches from my belly in total

I initially signed up for a 3 month unlimited sweat on sweat deal after being convinced to do so by a friend.. as it turns out she hasn't been able to attend very often through injury but I decided that as I had paid, I would keep attending by myself.



This is quite a big thing for me as I am quite shy and was anxious about looking an idiot. I have a lot of work to do to get where I want to be and I was worried that I wouldn't be physically able to do things due to a previous back injury and that I wouldn't be able to keep up with others in the class...



I am SO happy that I decided to keep coming... the classes are the hardest classes I have ever done.. but I love it! I feel amazing after and even after a few weeks I think I am getting stronger...

before, I was only getting a few hours sleep a night as I couldn't lie flat or even roll over in bed without it causing so much pain in my back... over the last few days I have managed a full nights sleep without waking up in agony once!



The trainers I have met have been amazing! So encouraging and happy to help, they always check I'm ok with an exercise whilst performing it as they know about my back issue and it's never a problem for them to adjust something for me to suit my ability.



I can honestly say these sessions have made me fall in love with exercise again and for that I can't thank you all enough.

I have been a member of SOS for 18 months. In that time it developed into a fantastic place to train. All the trainers are friendly and keen to help. It's certainly not an intimidating gym, all shapes and sizes are training there all with different fitness levels.Within a few weeks all the trainers will know your name and you will feel like part of a big family.

I was enjoying the bootcamps but felt I had stagnated so took up personal training with Geoff Wiseman. He is a very dedicated trainer who knew what I wanted to achieve and put me through my paces. Thanks to Geoff I had the confidence to move to the body composition classes. I am now entering my fourth week and am loving it. The programmes are carefully structured to achieve maximum results and there is fantastic support throughout the hour training.

I can't recommend this facility enough

I have been a member for just two months and already seeing results and feeling a lot more positive about food now and making better choices (not feeling hungry just eating more protein regular , the gym is so friendly and everyone is always eager to help if you need it , Geoff wiseman has helped me alot so knowledgable and always makes time to help, which is quite rare in a gym ! and because of that I am building the confidence I was lacking slowly but surely.

Thank you sos for making it an excellent facility with excellent trainers , loving my body comp sessions with Geoff wiseman & Gavin attore who really do help to motivate me & the whole group at body comp :-) xx

First boot camp today and I was very impressed. Have not liked gyms in the past, but this feels very different. Very friendly and supportive pt's and that goes for the other members also. Fab smoothie over at SOS Kitchen just across the way, no food though as am on the 28 Day plan. You should ask about this. Great value and fab for those who may be nervous about getting back in a gym environment. If you have questions, don't feel afraid to ask. The pt's don't bite. At least I don't think so! So, what are you waiting for? :) What have you got to lose, except lbs and excess body fat? And everything to gain such as confidence, muscles, stamina and lots of new friends.

The team here are awesome and look after you. To my knowledge and speaking from experience, that's the first thing that makes a true home around the workplace. Anything you need in support they are there with you side by side to whatever your goal might be, and always look to go that one extra mile. Every trainer has there own individual qualities and that resonates through the gym and beyond, and thats whats brings this place together.
