We acquired some more hives and equipment recently, with this old bait hive being one of them. Luckily though, a swarm had recently taken up residence in it! After a midnight move back to our apiary, we set about moving the bees into a new hive so we can look after them and repair the old hive. They’d made lots of ‘wild comb’ on the crown board of the box making moving them in not an easy task! So we performed a ‘shook swarm’, which essentially means shaking all the bees into... a new hive, Queen and all, and hoping they like their new home. We moved our bait hive up to the apiary last night. Had a quick look through today, and moved them into a full sized brood box. They seem happy and gathering pollen. 💐 Best of all though, they don’t seem to be from our hives!
