"Men choose methods other than engaging in conversation with either significant others or services when they are experiencing periods of challenge. "SURF THERAPY is a not for profit Community Interest Company (CIC) and a member of ISTO. We utilise researched, proven ‘surf therapy' to help men age 18 + facing the countless difficulties, concerns, challenges and the associated effects and stigmas presented by poor mental health. The benefits of ‘surf therapy' are well documented. Therapeutic ‘Blue Space' (health-enabling places and spaces near water) is a key focus in nature-based health and proven to have positive effects on well-being. Led by the University of Exeter Medical School, SOPHIE builds on the work of BlueHealth to improve our understanding of the impact environments such as ‘blue spaces' can have on health and well-being. "Stigma has been identified as a significant barrier to improving men's mental health. "Mental health needs talking about as does the social stigma and discrimination surrounding it. SURF THERAPY CIC actively promote mental health and well-being. Those dealing with mental health challenges can suffer a range of adversities because of stigma. No-one deserves to suffer. We show our Surf Riders they are not alone. We champion mental health awareness, improve understanding by educating others, and empower our Surf Riders to overcome any obstacles of discrimination. We facilitate their efforts to learn new skills necessary for the self-management of mental ill-health. I have a demonstrated history of working in PR and communications. Using my skills in Management, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Marketing Strategy and Event Management, I will support the amazing work of ISTO and other similar organisation to raise the profile of this amazing cause.
