About Swansea Market
Swansea Market is the largest indoor market in Wales and one of the largest and most famous in the UK maintaining a century’s old tradition of market trading in the heart of the city.
The current Market Hall on Oxford Street was built in 1961 following the destruction of the original building in the Swansea Blitz. The great glass roof spans 192 foot and is an instantly recognisable part of the Swansea skyline.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary year a host of exciting events and activities have been arranged to promote the Market’s long established heritage as well as to highlight the wonderful array of goods and services on offer.
Today the Market is home to over 100 local independent traders offering a warm welcome, unrivalled and unique variety of goods and value for money.
Nestling under the glass dome roof you will find excellent meat and poultry, fish and seafood, local produce, fruit and flowers. The Market upholds some of the finest traditions in local and Welsh food including traditional laverbread, cockles fresh from Penclawdd, welsh cakes straight off the griddle, meat joints prepared in a time-honoured Welsh fashion and vegetables and fruit fresh from the Gower and Pembrokeshire.
There is so much more than just the magnificent range of food however, shoppers will also find many places to grab a takeaway snack or sit down meal plus stalls offering books, jewellery, flowers, cards, clothing, fine china, luxury handbags, wedding favours and lots more.
