The Abdominal Web - Why We Work at the Centre

Imagine the navel as the centre of a spider's web. The connective tissue (fascia), which runs continuously through the body connecting all parts of the body in its various forms, makes up the "web".

One of the functions of a web is to transmit information to it's centre and so early Chinese doctors noticed that problems in the body were reflected as congestion at the abdomen. These problems may manifest as physical, mental or emotional and come in the form of knots, tangles, stresses and strains that lead to inefficiency and congestion of some of the body's major systems including the internal organs and musculo-skeletal systems.

For example, when you become stressed or anxious the first place it's usually felt is in the pit of the stomach and even when you stub your toe you involuntarily feel it "catch" or tense at the abdomen

Fuzang (or visceral massage) can help eliminate all these stresses and strains so that the pressure is released on the internal organs and other physical structures helping the system become efficient again. As the internal organs are closely connected to the emotions in Chinese Medicine it can help with many emotion problems too.
