Swansea University Graduation Village Description

The Degree and Award Congregations are one of the highlights of the University calendar and allow us to publically recognize and reward the achievements of Swansea University students. For the first time this year students will have the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends in our Graduation Village, hosted in partnership with JR Events.

The unique ‘Graduation Village’ will link together our two main graduation venues, the landmark Patti Pavilion where students will register and robe and the Brangwyn Hall where the congregations will take place.

Lining the route through Victoria Park, between the venues will be Lawn Marquees playing host to a variety of pop-up vendors. A selection of street food will be on offer, including a hog roast, and Halal and vegetarian options. Local arts and crafts stalls and a Pimms tent will also add to the festivities.

As you walk through the Graduation Village to the venue a Welcome Marquee will be situated on the lawns outside the Brangwyn Hall. Inside the marquee refreshments may be purchased, including afternoon tea, cakes, strawberries and cream, baguettes, breakfast sandwiches and drinks from the bar. The marquee will also act as a live feed venue for extra guests, where the graduation congregation will be broadcast via a large screen.

A Celebration Marquee will also be situated on the lawns where some of the colleges will be holding their post congregation receptions and prize givings.

The Brangwyn Hall at the Guildhall where the congregations will be held is one of the principle cultural locations in Swansea, and is regularly used for functions, award ceremonies and concerts.

The Hall houses the huge British Empire Panels, also known as the Brangwyn Hall Panels. The work of Sir Frank Brangwyn RA (1867 to 1956) is internationally acclaimed and the Panels are among the most important examples of his decorative work on a large scale.
