Only one week left before we are on the green carpet with Team Wales, putting our training to the test and enjoying the thrill. In our last week of training we are not introducing anything new, but polishing up well known bits like the setup for heelwork. Any major improvements and changes will have to wait until after the big event. What we can still do (and I wish I've done more of!) is to generalise what we know to more places and situations and put together sequences with one reward at the end, keeping the transitions between exercises engaging and consistent. Also, I can and should continue improving my movement and preparing mentally for this big experience. #obedience #competitiveobedience #crufts2020

Part of successful behaviour modification is teaching "survival skills" that help owners and dogs get out of dodge and avoid practising the "problem behaviours" such as barking and lunging. Those skills include getting away fast ("this way") and redirecting the dogs attention when getting away is not an option (for example "sprinkles"). During this session, we were also working on passing scary people without melting down. You can see that the dog is keeping it together but s...he is very aware of the trigger. Each time she finds herself a little bit too close for comfort, but manages to keep it together, something really good happens: it rains cheese and we have a party at a safe distance. We spend most of our training time further away, where she is not tense, but we include a few of those "close to the limit" reps. #hungarianvizsla #behaviourmodification

Training session at our lovely local Go Outdoors store with a dog who can be reactive to people and dogs, fearful in new environments and scared of strange surfaces. We visited at a quiet time, to make sure the level of "challenge" was just right: just a little bit outside comfort zone but where she would still be likely to learn, practise making good choices, enjoy rewards, sniff and explore. #hungarianvizsla #gooutdoors

Why bother having a bathroom if you can have a scramble zone instead? Today the scent dogs Sparrow and Bubu will switch from scavenging for treats to searching for and indicating on their target scent here.

Everyone was very excited to be out on forest trails again today, after the rough weather. There was lots of running, playing and exploring. Storms Ciara and Dennis set up a challenging obstacle course for us with lots of fallen trees and mud slides. Each dog solved the problem in their own unique way. #wildwalks #proprioception #afanvalley #canineenrichment
