About Tafarn Y Bont

Welcome to the FaceBook page of 'Tafarn y Bont'- a traditional country pub and eatery in the delightful village of Govilon near Abergavenny.

Tafarn Y Bont Description

The Tafarn y Bont, formerly known as the Bridgend Inn, is a beautiful country pub set at the edge of the Brecon National Park, and a stones throw away from the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal. Dating back 400 years it still retains an exclusive rustic charm, It sports a large car park to the rear together with a fabulous brook-side beer garden. Our food is very reasonably priced and you can eat with confidence knowing that we have recently been awarded (July 2014) a 5 star rating under the Food Standards Agency's food hygiene rating system. Since the change of ownership (and change of name) in late January of this year (2014) the pub is enjoying a level of trade not seen for many a year. This page is where you can find out about forthcoming events, special deals and so forth. It's also the place where you can make your suggestions as to how you think we can make the Tafarn y Bont even better!

It is with great sadness that we tell you that Paul Haddock, once a regular at the Tafarn when he lived locally, passed away yesterday.

User

Just to let you all know, the Tafarn won’t be open for lunch service this Friday 2nd November but we will be open as usual for our “Fish Friday” from 5.30pm. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Here’ a photo from the early 70s right here at the pub back when it was called the Bridgend Inn! Let’s hope our own Wild West charity night on the 10th November will see some equally authentic outfits! Out of sheer curiosity, does anyone remember any of the characters on the photo?

Just wanted to take this opportunity to express my thanks to all those who helped make yesterday such a resounding success in every respect - especially all my colleagues from the Travelling Wrinklies and all the performers from the Juke Box Heroes show - and of course the man himself Mr Owen Money MBE! Also my thanks to all my bar-staff who worked so hard throughout the day and evening, and likewise Chris and the staff in the kitchen. A few others I’d like to thank are Andrea, Gina, Beryl and Ray whose assistance was invaluable! Lastly my thanks to all of you who attended making it such a marvellous day. Thank you all. Jerry.

As you can all imagine we’ve had lots of enquiries about whether today’s show is going ahead. The answer is almost certainly yes, though it might be a bit later than the 3.30pm start we had hoped for ... according to the weather forecast the rain should be over by the late afternoon so our hope is we can go ahead but a little later than planned. We will keep you updated as best we can.

User

A little bit of what we’ve got to look forward to at the Tafarn y Bont on the 26th August!!!

User

Just a quick reminder to those of you who have booked for Owen Money show in the garden on the 26th - your tickets are now ready to collect from the pub. To those who haven’t booked who would like to come, you will need to be quick as there are very very few remaining!

User

Welsh tv and radio personality Owen Money and his band the Travelling Wrinklies perform live in the beer garden! (Weather permitting.) The performance will feature guest appearances from many of the stars of Owen’s recent highly acclaimed theatre tour “Juke Box Heroes II” and include tributes to Karen Carpenter (Sammi Broad), Shirley Bassey (Li Harding), Frankie Valli (Alex John), and Neil Sedaka (David Rhys-Morris). Admission is strictly advance booking only. Tickets are £10 and include a basket meal! Demand is high and numbers are necessarily limited so early booking is strongly advised.

User

Please note that because of a change in chef’s hospital appointments our curry night planned for the 6th May has now been moved to Tuesday 1st May. We apologise for any disappointment but this really was something beyond our control. However the same fantastic bargains are on offer: Start with papadums (2) and dips for just £1.90, then a choice of Chicken Korma, Chicken Jalfrezi, or a Vegetable Tikka Masala served with rice, naan bread and mango chutney - all for just a fiver! Chips can be added for just £1 extra. Demand is expected to be very high so booking is very much recommended. Just pop in or call 01873 830720 to make your reservation.

User

CURRY NIGHT - chicken korma or jalfrezi served with rice, naan bread and mango chutney for just £5 per head!!!! Plus Rekordalig cider or Coors light lager for an amazing £1.90 a bottle for all diners!

User

Plus all diners can get a bottle of Rekordalig cider or a bottle of Coors Light for just £1.90. Better value then Wetherspoons!!!

User
