What a beautiful place, especially at this time of the year. From the huge tree outside, to the gorgeous decorations inside, a lovely warm welcome from friendly staff. I booked a Christmas lunch for 21 of my walking group members and they laid out a beautifully decorated conference room for us. Wow! Service was just brilliant and the food.. Outstanding. Thank you to owners and staff alike for making our Christmas get together a special one. It's going to be hard to beat next year.. Top marks. Merry Christmas to you all!
We had a lovely Sunday lunch here yesterday, wonderful crunchy roast potatoes and rolled leg of lamb, all delicious. My Husband had cheese to follow which was a very generous portion and I had home made rice pudding and fruit compote, the rice pudding was fabulous, almost as good as my Nan used to make. Service both at the bar and the table was friendly and efficient, we will return soon.
Our first visit to this lovely homely pub and it wont be our last. Staff were brilliant and very friendly. Food was exquisite one of the very best meals weve had. Didnt want dessert to end. Cannot recommend this pub highly enough.
My favourite pub in the world. If I could afford to I would eat here every night and it's just on my doorstep now. Good quality and well seasoned. Polite and welcoming staff. Am very proud to call it the local ♡
I rode my bike past a few days earlier not having been to Crickhowell for many years.
I saw The Bear and thought that looks a lovely place for lunch one day.
And. I wasn't let down. Lovely place. Lovely staff. Stunning building. Lovely atmosphere.
To top it off, the food was amazing!
Highly recommended!
I have been many times with family and friends too the Bear Hotel and as usual our food was of a very good Quality and served with a friendly polite smile which goes a long way in today’s world .
Had a lovely afternoon meal I. The fabulous beer garden
Fabulous food and good service. Highly recommend
Amazing specials menu this Summer! Bring back the meatballs with chorizo and duck with orange bread and butter as permanent dishes... too good not to eat again! Delicious!
Absolutely love this hotel. Have been returning year on year and on countdown to our next visit - 4 sleeps and counting. Already thinking about what to choose from the menu - all fantastic so a difficult choice and also looking forward to a fabulous breakfast. My dogs are also looking forward to their chicken from this amazing dog friendly hotel. Cannot recommend enough and looking forward to our stay ️xx
1st time I visited last night. The staff were very accommodating and allowed dogs too! The food was gorgeous! I have been highly recommending The Bear hotel to family and friends. Will definitely be back soon. A fantastic experience Thankyou
So good to be served by someone with a brain eloquent, and an excellent knowledge of beer. I would estimate his age to be over 70 and I wish I could have spent more time at the bar talking to him but we had a table booked for Sunday lunch which was excellent. God quality and service was excellent. If it was mine I'd do an owners walk around the guests at my tables but that would simply to bask in the glory of a well run establishment.
Nice atmosphere and the food was good quality. Service was pleasant from all members that worked there. Nice to see that dog owners were allowed to bring their dogs in as well.
Missed the full lunchtime menu by a few minutes so a tad disappointed, but the food we had was tasty, plentiful and hot........except for the one salad of course! Good selection of beers enjoyed all the more by supping them in the enclosed 'dog friendly' beer garden on a hot sunny Bank Holiday. All in all a pleasant experience.
Lovely old surroundings.
Helpful and friendly staff as we happened to walk in through an open back door by mistake. Lady was friendly enough to show us the right way internally without sending us back out.
Food was great. Home made and tasty.
Toilets were amazing. Good quality and nicely decorated with lovely cosy touches of an arm chair, thick carpet and vintage mirrors.
Paintings of dogs in military uniform was a good conversation starter.
Wine was good too.
Would definitely come back and recommend.
Enjoyed my lunch yesterday, but they only had two vegetarian options to choose from so it’s a good job I like mushrooms. Definitely need to think about more veggie options and maybe trying to put vegan options on the menu too.
Recently stayed at The Bear in Crickhowell as a little treat. On first impressions the room looked great. Lovely setup and great facilities. Sadly upon wanting to run a bath later in the evening the water pressure was that bad there was no hot water. We did report this to the reception desk and they did respond, but couldn’t resolve the issue. The only possible solution recommended would have taken ages to fill the bath and the water was still running cold. On using the shower the following morning the pressure was just as bad and when leaving the room we found dogs mess outside on the path. All issues were highlighted on checkout, but we felt that as we had already paid for the room the hotel had received payment and the receptionist was not interested in any gratuity and did try to request payment for the room again whereby we highlighted it had already been pre-paid. Very disappointing when you are paying for facilities and not able you use them.
Called the day before to see if we could book a table to be told they don't reserve. When we arrived today there was reserved signs on numerous tables. No biggy as we managed to get a table to fit us. We where out celebrating my Dads 60th, arrived around 2pm, sat at table ordered drinks and whilst deciding what to eat from the menu that the bar staff provided we fed our baby. When we then went to order we where told we would have to wait until 3pm to order. Again no biggy, at 3pm we went to order to be told we could no longer order off the menu they gave us but a simpler smaller menu. 3 of us had to change what we wanted as no longer offered. When the food arrived it was mediocre, bog standard bland pub food. We had travelled over 40 minutes to visit and left extremely disappointed. I just felt bad for my Dad as his birthday celebrations was ruined.
Nice premises, food ok, if a little expensive, poor vegatarian choice and vegan options non exhistant, so my partner had to have a side order and chips.
Really annoyed when I recieved bill to see if I'd been charged £6.75 for a pint and a half of lime and soda!
