Wonderful location....we visit a couple of times during both the summer and winter months and the garden is perfect for the children in the summer and the roaring fire perfect for winter. On this occasion we celebrated a Birthday: gorgeous food, excellent service (efficient and very friendly)...nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended. Xxx

Went here for sunday dinner 4th June. Even though we hadnt booked we were found a table. Myself and my husband had the 3 course sunday lunch... it was delicious!! Very reasonably priced. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, all in all a very nice place to which we will be returning to very soon.

We were running late for sunday dinner but really wanted a cooked dinner perfect they serve until 4.45p it was beautifully cooked the curried parsnip soup srarter was fantastic we paid an extra pound for a mix of meats and extra meat and struggled to finish there was loads of meat chicken pork and beef all cooked gorgeously moist in the words of Arnie

Visited today for Father’s Day, we had been many years ago but not recently. It was amazing, decor lovely, friendly staff and the food was absolutely stunning. The weather didn’t let us use the play area but we will be back for that too �

The service was great, we got seated straight away, The food didn't take long to arrive, & was perfect.. Thank you! I'm sure we'll be back soon....

Often come here for a bite to eat after a run, food is always up to standard. The new gin menu is superb, served the right way and at a very reasonable price. �

My family and friends visited here on 24th March for my sister's birthday. We had a fabulous meal , all of the food was really good ! We had excellent service from the staff but in particular from a very polite young man called Joe. Joe tried hard to ensure our night was special by being very attentive and generally making sure we were all ok , particularly for the birthday girl.

I would recommend having a meal and drinks here. We will be back . Thanks to all the staff 😊 x

The staff really do go above and beyond, and are incredibly friendly and professional. They really make you feel welcome here.

We have been there on many occasions, the food is lovely and freshly cooked, but today we had Sunday lunch for six, when it arrived at our table it was cold and didn't enjoy it as we have on previous visits, we let the staff know we weren't happy about our food being cold, they were short staffed can't blame the waitresses they were running from one table to the next trying to please everyone, very slow service felt sorry for the staff rushed of there feet, need more staff when they know they are going to be busy, the staff were apologetic offered us free desserts to make up for it but we didn't have any, let's hope if we go again it will be better

Up this way so couldn't help but try the black cock for the first time. Definitely worth it as the black cock left me feeling very full. lives up to its reputation, once you go black I'd definitely go back.

The staff are very friendly food is amazing but the kids area really needs to be done up and the beer garden needs a spruce up but once that has been invested in; it will be an awesome place.....

Had a nice chop and my wife had the curry...Eat here quite regularly and as usual enjoyed our food...The staff on a Thursday are pretty spot on and we will continue to eat there despite some of the reviews here...Worrying is that they are always advertising for staff...Great setting for a pub...

Had the piri piri chicken expecting it to be cooked in the sauce but it was a chicken portion with piripiri drizzled lightly over it not impressed

Had Sunday lunch, starter was nice and dessert was too. However the meat on the mains was dry and tough as old boots. So was the roast potatoes. Long wait in between courses as well, people seated after us getting their food before us on all courses apart from starter.

The food is good here and that's about as far as it goes for my lunch experience on Saturday.. the service was absolutely shocking. The young boy behind the bar was extremely rude. No one came to check on our table so I went to order my own drinks. He was on his phone at the end of the bar, looked up at me and saw I was waiting and then went back to finishing his text/game! I was utterly appalled. I mentioned we were on a table but he didn't offer to bring our drinks over and his attitude stunk!



The waitress looked to be struggling, despite the fact the restaurant wasn't very busy! She would clear two plates from a table and leave the rest sitting there. One table was messy for the entire duration of our visit.



The table next to us were also getting irate at the poor level of service! When one of their meals arrived it was supposed to have sweet potato mash but they'd run out so gave her chips instead, without even telling her! Shocking. They had to ask where their meals were and with a disgusting attitude were told they'd had starters so that's why they were waiting.. they obviously knew this and that's not an excuse for the delay. Complete lack of organisation or common sense.



In addition to this, all of the meals that were described as homemade, they'd ran out of. They didn't tell us this until we ordered what they didn't have. Poor.



At the end of the meal we had to go to the bar to pay. Unfortunately for me, I pointed out that they had the bill wrong and ended up paying an extra £15. So not only is their service terrible but they're also undercharging your customers, losing you money.



I was there for 2.5 for lunch. That's how long everything took. No apology on delivering the food for the delay. One table that arrived had to ask the waitress to clear the plates off the table next to them.



Seriously, steer clear in the daytime unless you have the patience of a saint and don't mind the staff being rude to you. Such a shame that the workers have let this place down.
