We had a lovely family lunch here, beautiful beetroot soup and a lovely fish chips and mushy peas, lovely service we were so well looked after.
The best place to host an event! Held a charity pub quiz. Had curry rice and chips which was perfect. Everyone had a fab time and the staff are the best!! Highly recommend to everyone!
Never disappointed, amazing food and atmosphere. Especially love the Steak Night... stunning and great value for money. Staff are friendly and professional, love it!
Lovely meal to celebrate a Special birthday, John had his "best starter ever" the scotch egg, whilst all main meals to spec and tasty, but my personal highlight was the Snickers Tart desert We are looking forwards to a return visit and to visit other branches of the Knife and Fork for more Food Glorious Food and Beer Glorious Beer soon s xx
Love it, love it, LOVE IT! Brûléed goats cheese with beetroot to start was small but perfectly lovely, setting the palate up for a fab rib eye, red cabbage gratin, salad, thrice-cooked chips, tomato and mushroom garnish. Homemade arctic roll with raspberry sorbet to finish. Yummy, yummy in my stuffed full tummy. My usual Doombar was followed by several, large Japanese single malts. I don't remember much else, to be truthful. See you soon x
Great food, lovely cocktails, great friendly helpful staff and will be going back very soon.
Gorgeous again! Great food, friendly staff! This is actually one of the best places in Cardiff for a good cocktail! We had a Cosmopolitan and a Mojito! I had the Discovery Bouillabaisse with baked creamy fennel! Wow! So lucky to have this venue on our doorstep! 5*s
Fantastic night in the function room for our annual club Xmas party - already booked for next year! Thanks to the staff for looking after us, and for the amazing buffet!
Fab food, fish and chips delicious, reasonable prices and lovely friendly staff😁😁
Christmas Day lunch for 9 all superb. Food was divine hot and beautifully cooked. Service was excellent and very attentive. Well done to you all.
Best fish and chips ever!!!...have enjoyed gorgeous meals at the Discovery...friendly staff...give it a whirl, you'll be glad you did!!
Not been to the Discovery for over 10 years, wow what a change!!! Remember it as a middle class 'old persons' carpet and velvet seats Now modern, bright and the party room is ab spectacular !!! Food in the function was the best I have had in a long time, beef was to die for !!! A lovely party and very friendly staff !!
Lovely modern gastro pub with a very unusual menu. The Crispy chilli beef and Asian salad starter is to die for and we have loved the food on previous visits. However the Crispy Glamorgan Sausages were a big disapointment for for one of us . Not being Welsh none of realised they are not sausages but more like a potato croquet with cheese that had a weird flavour and not very nice. The staff replaced it and did not charge to their credit but there was no indication on the menu they were not a meat sausage as the name suggests to non Welsh customers and this should be addressed to avoid similar disappointment . However, as all our other meals have very tasty, if this is put right it is still a place to be recommended .
Had dinner with five friends to belatedly celebrate my birthday. Service, food and ambience great.
Good selection of food, excellent service with very pleasant staff. Lovely modern dining area although a little on the cold side last night. Perhaps it was because we were sat quite near the door. Been there a few times and will return.
Go with my family every time I come to cardiff to visit we all love it there food very good also service. Yesterday although the food was up to usual standard service was a bit haphazardly strange as the restaurant was much quieter then past times we have eaten here.
Really enjoyed the meal, food came relatively quickly from ordering to serving, was hot, tasty no fault with the mains. We were seated at a very large table, a bit too large for 9 of us to all chat to each other. My end, the table was a bit sticky so could have done with a good wipe down. We were seated in the kids area with the high chairs and book shelves so I don’t know if that’s an area more reserved for families with small children, hence the sticky wooden table!
Dessert took a while and the ice cream we wanted with our expresso took forever and we had drunk our coffee by the time it came!
All in all it’s reasonably priced and the food is tasty.
Why is a simple pint of Brain's Bitter £3.70 in here? A round of 2 pints was nearly 8 quid. It's £2.80 in the Three Arches. It's a nice enough pub, but the message seems to be "we don't go cheap".
I ordered chicken provencale with hasselback new potatoes. The potatoes were soggy and not cooked the sauce was red wine vinegar and mustard absolutely awful and it was cold. When asked I said it wasn't nice the manager said "you should have said " she offered me a drink!!!!!!!!! £13 for a horrible meal and when she came to give us our bill she said I haven't charged you for your brandy!!!! Been going to the discovery for over 40 years won't go again
