To compliment the mobility series for cyclists videos that will be running over the next few weeks ( see last week for thoracic spine), I thought I’d post some quick home based strength videos for runners / triathletes.
This week is a simple hip and glute complex, next week will be calf and lower leg.
Try them 2-3 times a week to start ....... enough resistance to complete 8-15 reps 3-4 times and add more resistance when easy.
... Also works well as a non stop circuit session.
Resistance band readily available on places such as amazon, all others can be performed with stairs or floor.
Add resistance by increasing tension on band / shorter band and a rucksack with weights / books for standing exercises.
As always, it’s not an exhaustive guide, but simply a basic home based regime that should help.
Any questions on other exercises or gym based exercises, please comment below.
Give them a go and let me know how you get on üëç

It’s wet, cold and miserable weather here in Wales today, and opening the curtains didn’t exactly inspire me for today’s training.
Then I remembered this.........üòè
Many people seek imaging as a means to finding a diagnosis for their injury / pain.
Although sometimes appropriate, the evidence informs us that many people without injury / pain will present with similar findings to those in pain.
Therefore we have to look at the whole picture for that athlete and not just the findings of a scan. ... Here’s a picture highlighting this. Athletes - you don’t always need to seek a scan, or believe that the findings of a scan are the cause of your problem.

Tapering is hard......
Many of us, myself included have learned through trial and error.......
Personally my taper depends on the race / event.......
... The science even suggests individual differences are a major factor.....
Here’s a study offering some strategies and advice ........
I’d love to hear what works and doesn’t work for everyone out there and if you have different strategies for different events ?????

Anyone working in, or interested in anything fitness, exercise, rehab or conditioning needs to be following this page. Claire is fantastic!
The single biggest factor that affects cycling performance is aerodynamics - i.e. wind resistance and drag.
Although many cyclists and triathletes have the most aerodynamic equipment possible, it is often limitations in their ability to sustain or achieve aerodynamic positions that I see in clinic.
These limitations often present as neck/ cervical spine, hip and thoracic spine mobility restrictions.
... Over the coming weeks I will post a series of short videos to help cyclists improve any potential mobility issues they may encounter.
Performing these regularly for a few minutes at a time may help.
Aim for constant, rhythmical movements without holds at end of available range.
