We travel up from Oxfordshire to visit family in this area every couple of months and make the Gladstone our first choice for a meal whenever we visit. The staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excellent and can hold it's own against many restaurants in the area. Looking forward to our next night out at the Gladstone.
The service was very good and always is as is the food. I've had the chefs bara brith bread and butter pudding tonight and it was absolutely gorgeous, I hope that it is a regular on the menu, I would definitely go back for more!!!! Thank you for such a lovely meal
Never had better food / sleep / service, if your ever within 50 miles and don't at least pop in to eat your robbing your very soul, food is absolutely amazing, traditional ales for most tastes, and a family feel from the staff that would get anybody wanting to come back.
Personally I'm wondering if they would be willing to adopt me.
P.S. who is it that gives out star ratings? and where is the extra one for The Gladstone?
Me & my friend stopped for lunch & had fantastic sandwiches. Mine was smoked salmon & cream cheese& my friend had prawn in Marie Rose sauce. It was full of prawns
Would definitely recommend
Lovely pub, lovely staff and fab food! Eaten twice here since we arrived at the Caravan site behind it on Saturday and both meals were lovely! Also the black cherry and amaretto ice cream was to die for
Lovely food, lovely room and ensuite. We stayed in room 1 and 6. Only issue we had was the shower in room 6. It didn't drain very well so you had to be in and out quick. The staff here are so helpful , they cannot do enough. Would definitely stay here again .
Had a lovely stay on Sunday and Monday nights. The food is first class. The staff are all friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms comfortable and clean. I would thoroughly recommend The Gladstone to anyone needing a place to stay in the area and will definitely come back again.
Came for steak night and was not disappointed! Food was really good, friendly staff. Quite expensive but it was a treat!
2nd visit was amazing. Big menu dogs allowed insislde.
Beautiful location nice big place well deorated but only offering very small Sunday menu 3 starters 3 roast and 3 puds... we just wanted a lunch nibble a sandwich or even just a bowl of chips as a snack. Would go back maybe try menu in week but they lost at least 4 people food order as another couple also wanted a sandwich..
We are visiting from the state of Rhode Island in the United States and have enjoyed your hospitality. Our room has a wonderful view of the Irish Sea and your staff (in particular a delightful young lady from Scotland) has been wonderful.

Myself and my husband have stayed over night at the Gladstone a few times, and never had any problems with the room and service, beautiful rooms overlooking the sea, but was quite disappointed with our last stay 1. Didnt realise you had to book a table for food even though we booked an overnight stay, luckily found a table ... 2. Ordered two meals and was brought a totally different meal i ordered, so had to wait for my meal to arrive ... and my husband was happily eating his while i waited, staff very apologetic .... will deffinitely stay here again though, as we love the hotel
Had a fabulous Saturday night stay over proceded by a fantastic meal. All the food was superb, both in the evening and breakfast. The best ever Black pudding and belly pork according to my husband. Will certainly call in again to eat whenever possible, well worth the 50 mile drive from Chester.
Went in for a drink, we're down here for 4 nights and thought I'd do a wrecky. I went to the bar twice, was overcharged the first time and short changed the second time. At this point I had to say something and was reimbursed without question, but why oh why do they try it on like this?
Please, accept drink doesn't make us stupid.
Recently refurbished, nice food, starter was quite generous portion of mushrooms
Shame there was a longish gap in bringing out the third meal which didn't come straight away after the 1st two main meals were brought out
Had to ask a2nd time for an additional drink which seemed to have been forgotten about.
Had a meal here and was overcharged. My husband went to complain and no apology just given £10 back by a very stressed out manager. but still think it wasnt enough. No itemised bill .we are regulars here but since new management the atmosphere has gone, certainly going downhill
Called here for lunch on Saturday after a walk up Aber Falls. Good service, very quiet. Food was fine but I was disappointed with the Croque Monsieur. It was covered in a very mustardy sauce which I have never encountered on a Croque Monsieur before- that certainly isn't how they make them in France! And if yoy are going to put a twist on a classic dish please put it on the menu- I would never have ordered it if I thought it would have mustard in it. However, the burger off the kids menu was excellent. Very expensive though- kuds burger, croque monsieur, club sandwich, pint, coke and fruit shoot came to £30!!! Definitely not worth that. For that reason I don't think we'll go again.
Very underwhelmed. I had the Welsh rarebit and it came out on a standard piece of bread from a loaf. You'd expect at £9 it to be on a thick piece of bloomer bread. When I mentioned it to the staff on paying the bill they countered my complaint with "but it was fresh bread!" That's the minimum I would have expected. I have visited here lots of times and enjoyed the food but on this occasion it was not the case.
First of all tiny window at top of desk was told last night sorry no chef for food came back 5 minutes ago to find no cleaner had been in to clean room no bed made or bin emptied no chef on tonight for a 5 star hotel disgusting will not be returning or recommend it to anyone
My family visited the gladstone last nigh and were subjected to the lights being turned out on them at 21.30 .the bar staff then played a song called "closing time" twice getting louder .one of the staff was heard saying "obviously its not loud enough".the giggling and awkwardness became so bad my family left..
They are new to the area and could have been potential new regulars..but not a chance now.
Awful customer service. Dissapointed to say the least.they wont servive with this attitude.
