Nice enough atmosphere, and friendly service, but the food we had really didn't stand out very much. The Royal Oak Fish Pie looked great but was a bit bland, and the Royal Oak Burger was a quality burger but came with some relishes and BBQ sauce that didn't really compliment the meat so made for an odd taste experience.

I'm also not a fan of all the food arriving in their own dishes on the plate so you have to tip everything out yourself before you can eat it; like chips being served in a small little bucket on your plate. I think it's a pointless and pretentious way of serving food if you ask me, but that's just my comment and not anything to do with my thoughts on this review.

Lovely place. Went to a function then stayed the night. Food at the function very good and dinner that evening was wonderful although breakfast left a lot to be desired. Staff were great and rooms comfy and clean. Would def stay there again

Went for Sunday lunch. The food was of good quality and portions a good size. Despite booking ahead and with children we were informed upon asking that no child's roast was available. Having ordered an alternative and ate our starters, a family arriving after us were asked by a different waitress if they wanted a child size roast dinner.

Went in Sunday for an early lunch sandwich and a pint with my dad after a long walk. Fish finger sandwich came out on burnt toast (literally it was visibly black in parts) and chicken club had cold, tough chicken that looked like it had been microwaved. It was yellow on the outside. Very disappointing after a couple of great visits. Ale was great as always. I'd return, but to drink, not eat.
