The Star Inn

Friendly owner and staff! My boyfriend and I were exhausted after a day of hiking in Brecon Beacons, we were happy to have booked a room at The Star Inn! The inn is under renovation, but it does not affect daily operations. The owner is very vibrant, helpful, and welcoming, and the room is very decent and clean. It totally exceeded our expectation!

Friendly atmosphere, dog friendly and a great selection of ales, all kept in good condition.

Bit ropey. Pleasant welcoming staff, but the usual selection of poor Welsh ales. The craft ale revolution has yet to hit Wales.

Was previously excellent and still is for service and beer. The steak dinner has been downgraded somewhat. Before, you'd receive huge onion rings, plenty of peas and chips and a good steak with optional dish of veg.
Now you receive 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 tiny onion rings and a mushroom. You don't get chips you get a serving dish if there's 2 of you. The other food looks fine but the steak dinner has flopped big time.
Staff are still great and great range of ales. I'd put 3 stars but the dinner is beyond parody for 15 quid charge.

Delightful old fashioned pub under very warm management. Great beer and better than average vegetarian food choices A rare find! I could spend hours there!

What can I say! Excellent pub in the small canal-side village of Talybont-on-Usk. When I last visited in October 2016, the pub was up for sale. Hope the new owners honour the tradition of keeping CAMRA award winning, (having already won 7 years in a row). Rear beer garden with a path up to the canal towpath and garden also borders the river Usk too.

This pub is popular with walkers, locals, those using the canal etc. Not eaten here for about 20 years, but the beer here is excellent every single time I have visited since discovering this gem of a pub 20 years ago!

We had a late lunch at the Star Inn today. First visit and we will be back. Nice family run pub with home cooked food and friendly service.
