Currently staying at the Waverley Hotel Bangor, the hotel was £150 for the family room. On first impressions the hotel looks shabby from the outside , the sun terrace is not as glamorous as the name would suggest. But I thought the inside might be better .... I’m afraid it’s not. The room’s beds were clean and the bathroom looks as if it’s not long been tarted up. However, there is no double glazing and the window frames are draughty and mouldy, not to mention the heavy traffic noise from the main road outside. The icing on the cake .... when we checked in the person at the desk said there was karaoke in the bar but it wouldn’t be finishing too late. It’s now 23.20 and still in full swing and just looked on the hotel website and it says it goes on ‘til 1 am! Just looked at some other reviews and one of them said no wonder they take your money up front because there is no way you would pay after staying here and I have to agree, I have never stayed anywhere this bad and would probably sleep better in the car which we have had to pay to park !
Not really deserving of the one star but can’t give it less.
Absolutely disappointed w the stay. Room n bathroom are old, unpleasant sight of exposed sewage piping. No shampoo, no hairdryer n clothes hook or towel rail at all. There were a couple of hangers. No mixer at basin so the scorching hot water provided is pointless. The premise has an onsite karaoke n the compressor of the beer dispenser behind the building, so we were kept awake the whole night. U need to call for any assistance as the reception will b closed at night. We booked for 4 nights but had to cancel 3 n asked for a refund.
Paid £70-75 for a double room, for the standard of the bathroom I think that price point is far too high. Bathroom decor was...dated let's say, the toilet seat was loose, and the shower head was also loose so pointed back at the wall! Best invest that £75 guys! The staff were friendly though 🙂
They have nice rooms, a friendly staff and great breakfast. Nice location for travellers my train. I really had a nice stay here
Staff are good and friendly and the landlord takes pride in his beer
It was cheap, for a reason. However loud music from another room until gone 1 in the morning, people banging around until after that. It heaved it down with rain and it sheeted off the roof and straight against my window. Went to shower in the morning and couldn't even stand up in the bath, no shower curtain. Would have looked dated in the 50s in the bathroom. Breakfast was a further disappointment. £8.50 for economy sausages, cold hash brown, under cooked eggs and to top it all being served Tea made with off milk.
I won't make that mistake again. You shouldn't either.
Regular poker games take place with a friendly crowd, drinks are a good price and staff are all very friendly.
The Waverley is a wonderful pub opposite the railway station, the staff are friendly and very welcoming and the menu is very varied, the prices are very reasonable
