She's done it again! Tracy O'Callaghan has continued her success in the world of Powerlifting by winning 2 Bronze medals and a Gold whilst competing for Great Britain in the European Powerlifting Championships in Hungary. Tracy took the Bronze in the Squat, lifting 180 kg, Bronze in the Bench Press beating her own personal best with a lift of 90 Kg and Gold in the Deadlift with 195 Kg. This fantastic effort by Llantwit Major's own Sports Personality of the year placed her ...in overall 3rd Place. Tracy has achieved her success with a huge amount of hard work and dedication (and the occasional tweak from Therapyworks' physios!) and whilst working full time in a Nursery school. Our congratulations go to you Tracy! Don't forget that if you've got an ache or a twinge that's niggling you - don't leave it hoping it will go away - come and see us because Therapy does work!

Probably the most common issues that our Physiotherapists see in our clinic are associated with neck and shoulder pain. There are are a wide variety of causes and often the patients we see have tolerated the pain for a long time thinking that it will get better if they rest it, or if they have a massage or take the pain killers that the doctor prescribed. In the short term these may help and ease the symptoms but they won't treat the underlying problem. So if you're one of those people who has been suffering in the hope that the pain in your shoulder or neck will miraculously go away, then maybe you should come and see us. We're here to help! Call us or pop and and make an appointment to see a Physiotherapist.

With Christmas just round the corner and it being the season of goodwill, here at Therapyworks, we thought we'd offer some festive tips on how to stay healthy during those tricky festive jobs that can leave you with aching limbs! So when you're collecting your Christmas tree don't forget that carrying it from A to B you may need assistance. Keep your legs bent & your back straight! And when you're decorating it, try doing it with the tree in the middle of the room, to save ...you twisting & bending awkwardly! You can then move it where you want it with your assistant later! For those of us who leave shopping to the last minute and end up on Christmas eve looking like a donkey laden with presents, remember to divide the load equally between both arms - better still take a rucksack with you so the weight of all those presents is spread evenly through your spine. Finally, for the cooks amoungst you, all those hours spent in the kitchen preparing food or washing up can adversely affect the muscles in your lower back. So keep changing your position regularly, try not to lean too far forwards and when you lift the turkey out of the oven dont forget to keep your knees bent, your back straight and stick your bottom out! If you do get a twinge here or a niggle there - you know where we are! We also have some items that may be the ideal gift for your loved one as well as gift vouchers so pop in and see us!

How many hours in a day do you spend seated? You may be surprised to learn that on average we spend 9 hours a day sitting down.... which according to research is double the safe limit! Prolonged sitting is strongly linked to back pain and other complaints and even regular exercise can't undo the effect of sitting. So by reducing the amount of our daily sitting by just 1 hour we can burn 1kg of fat per month. A few weeks ago we posted an item on the importance of posture an...d we wanted to give you the heads up(!) that we will be shortly running a programme of postural awareness sessions.Using an infrared camera we will be able to pinpoint postural hotspots and then provide you with a programmed treatment plan to help improve your posture. And in the mean time why not try the free on-line Posture Archetype Assessment by visiting: http://posturearchetype.com/
Come and see us or give us a ring......we're here to help!

"Stand up straight!" - Advice we've all probably heard at some point and all probably ignored! But it's worth paying attention to, particularly as we get older. Good posture is important for balance and by working on our balance our strength will improve, resulting in fewer of those aches & pains that affect our daily lives. Poor posture isn't just about bad habits either - inflexible and weak muscles can decrease the range of movement of joints which will encourage slumping and throw our body off balance when walking. This in turn can lead to pain and discomfort in many areas. The good news is you don't need to be a super athlete to do something about it! Therapyworks Ltd has lots of information and a wealth of experience about how to improve your posture, so please call in and see us - we're here to help!
